The End?
April 26, 2010 6:00 pm

This morning Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reported that according to his sources, Legend of the Seeker has been canceled and will not return for a third season. (link) I contacted a source that I have and while they hadn’t heard anything about it, they supposed it was true. What do I personally make of all this? I don’t know. Until someone comes out officially and says one way or the other, I’m inclined to at lease kindle a small glimmer of hope… but that’s really all it is at this point. A glimmer.

We’ve unsticked our Save the Seeker post from the top of the page, but it’s still in existence here if you wish to keep on writing: http://herblueeyes.com/2010/02/05/help-legend-of-the-seeker-get-a-3rd-season/

Chris and I would like to thank everyone who wrote to their local stations and to ABC Studios for all their work and dedication to the show and we hope to keep seeing you around the site.

Well this is highly disappointing. :( Shows how much a couple of months can change things especially since Ausiello was so sure that LotS would be picked up again. Anyways, I’ll still be praying for it to get picked back up by another source. Like they say, “It’s not over until the fat lady sings.” and since there has been no official word, it’s not over yet.

As much as I love the show, I kind of realized it was inevitable. It’s been trapped in a syndication nightmare, and advertising has been thin. I’m going to miss it, but I’m going to try and see the good side. We (in the states) might have never found out about Bridget, Tabrett, and the Craigs without Seeker, so I thank the people at Disney/ABC for bringing them to us, and maybe they can use Seeker as leverage to do more incredible things (Now that Bridget has the free time, I’m hoping to see her in Amazonium soon.) I don’t want to see the show end, but I’m in “hope for the best, prepare for the worst” mode at this point and looking for the upside.

That report was UNOFFICIAL. Check out the legendoftheseeker.org website for more info. Spread the word.

  • By debRab, April 26, 2010 @ 9:04 pm

A lot of on line news outlets are picking up the story, saying its official. Big bummer . . . . .

  • By Jason, April 26, 2010 @ 10:17 pm

I think it’s funny that nobody had the cajones to “officially” announce the cancellation. Looks like it’s going to remain a story based on “sources”. I guess they don’t want to deal with the response.

@Dear_B or should I say Dear Diary? Got some news that Seeker is no more. So sad to say goodbye to my NZ family but excited for what’s next.

  • By Patricia, April 27, 2010 @ 7:55 am

Yeah, I have mixed emotions about this, too. I love the show and have written my share of letters. I shall miss it – most of all the terrific chemistry that exists between all of them.

On the other hand, they must be getting all sorts of scripts and offers and now they’ll be available to do anything they want to do, anytime they want to do it. I’m looking forward to seeing them do different roles, different genres, and with different castmates. Just think of the possibilities!

All my best wishes to all of them. :-)

  • By fuat atalayer, April 27, 2010 @ 9:02 am

that was a terrible news. i am really sorry. i shall miss the show. i could not watch the last 4 episodes because real life issues but saved them to watch later. those are now more valuable.

i am sure that Bridget will be the brightest actress/star people can ever see. because she has got a gift not to mention she is beautiful(gorgeous) :) .

    now the upset side of my soul :( ;
show business is something that i dont understand. they make movies with bloodshed, non-sence violance, no feelings but rage and anger. on the other hand shows like legend of the seeker could not be survived. why because there were something different like love, romance, sacrifice; not rage, blood and/or anger. that show has (had) meaning. i havent yet talked about the acting. Like Bridget and others. you all well aware of them. i dont need to write it down.

i must say to the decision makers; just for once; make less money, do the right thing. (that was the hopeless begging part -once again-):(

My best wishes to the crew of the Legend of the Seeker.

hope to see u all around.

    Ugh….

  • By Dennis, April 27, 2010 @ 11:46 am

Weak as hell. Another Disney fail. As a businessman, I don’t fault any enterprise for pulling the plug on an insolvent product. And surely I’m not privy to all pertinent financial data, but I strongly suspect there was a vast lack of support by Disney in terms of marketing (Seeker of Love? WTF?!), scheduling a viable time slot (4pm Sat? WTF?!), DVD sales (still no Blu-Ray? WTF?!).

With the might of Disney, they could make or break any project. I assert that management let it wither on the vine, whereas they could just as well have pumped it up for success (like they did Hannah Montana, Lizzie McGuire, or Raven). We, and they, all know its true.

Somewhere along the line Seeker needed a champion within Disney management, and it appears that didn’t happen. No fault of the cast/crew, IMO. They made a great show in spite of Disney, not because of Disney.

Craig, you were great. Bridget, I love you. Tabrett, I love you a lot. Cheers to everybody involved for your great work, and my support in your future endeavors.

Thank you Lindsey and Chris for running a top notch fan site. I greatly appreciate your participation and leadership during the season three renewal campaign. Your efforts were more than admirable. Lindsey you are an especially gracious host. I got the impression that you guys were slightly hesitant about the direction the site was going in once the letter writing campaign took hold… but you handled the responsibility with patience and professionalism. I have enjoyed reading the comments from around the world and seeing the concerted efforts of many affectionate and caring people, all due to the fact that you provided a nice, cozy hub for interaction.

I am going to SORELY miss that all-too-brief feeling of pure contentment I get while watching Bridget, Tabrett, Craig and Bruce in fresh Seeker episodes. I’ll always remember the episode Torn and how astonished I was when I realized Bridget Regan’s depth as an actress. I mean, I knew she was a wonderful actress before that… but c’mon… we’re talking sledgehammer to the skull here. I couldn’t think straight for days after seeing that. Some play, TV show or movie is going to inherit that talent AND SOON, if it hasn’t already happened. Lucky them! And lucky us, because we’ll be able to see more of her talent on display.

I hope this site will continue to keep up with Ms. Regan’s journey and I look forward to the day, sometime soon, when herblueeyes.com informs me of her latest project.

    @Dennis and @Jason

    agree with you guys

    +1

    Lindsey and Chris;

last couple of week i could not follow neither LOtS nor herblueeyes.com because of business and real life issues but i didn leave this site and i wont. :)

“The quest is complete. Thank you so much to our amazing cast, crew & all our fans, it’s been an awesome two years. Will miss you all.”

  • By Snow White, April 27, 2010 @ 1:03 pm

I am absolutely devastated by this news. This has been too much for my lil tear ducts to handle.

I’m so angry at ABC and Disney and whom ever else was responsible for this decision. It blows my mind that they choose to renew crap shows, but a decent, AWESOME show gets the boot? Seriously, WTF??

I’m sorry, but I see no postive in this. I’m just heart broken. And then they say Disney makes dreams come true… Hmmph, whatever.

But I’d like to thank everyone on the Seeker team for bringing us this marvellous show, and, of course, Lindsey and Chris for maintaining this awesome site. Thanks guys – you rock. =)

  • By fuat atalayer, April 27, 2010 @ 1:21 pm

    i am really upset.

i have too many things to write down to expess my feelings (guess what; it is anger) but with my respect to this site and LOtS crew; i wont.

    @ Snow White;

you are correct. they are now dream breakers.

  • By Em, April 27, 2010 @ 1:29 pm

Now, all that I can hope for is that Richard and Kahlan are actually able to be together in the season finale. But I’m worried that won’t even happen because it seems that they didn’t know the status of a Season 3 before the end of shooting Season 2. What do you all think?

  • By Sparty, April 27, 2010 @ 2:11 pm

@Em: Yeah, I have a feeling we won’t really be seeing any “closure”. It’s probably going to be like what ABC did with Superman: Lois & Clark. The plug was pulled at the last moment so the series ended in a cliffhanger.

  • By Flip, April 27, 2010 @ 4:48 pm

yes, thanks to you Lindsey and Chris. Bridget probably already moved on. Craig I wonder about.

Hard to say what really happened. The time slot was insane and I always felt this was a key issue. The financial state of many in the media biz is another. Egos as big as a mountain probably another. Sparty probably has a better back office feel there.

I guess I will now read the books and think of our cast in the books and shut off ABC/Disney. At least I still have that right for NOW (instead of beamed into my head)

    cheers all…

  • By blt2go1981, April 27, 2010 @ 5:41 pm

Why even start a project if you’re only going to set it up to fail. Limited advertising and bad time slot. It airs Sat at 10:30pm here in Hawaii. Most people I know who liked the show, would choose to go out and catch the episode later on-line. I just hope the cast got enough exposure to land other projects. I will miss LOTS.

  • By Haylie, April 27, 2010 @ 5:45 pm

I am so sad, i love the show and of course i think Bridget is amazing.
I hope we the fans can continue to write to ABC and let them know that we want the show to be renewed.
Anyways on the bright side i hope they finished shooting season 3 so they can make it a combo pack with the second season.

  • By Purplexion, April 27, 2010 @ 6:09 pm

    I’m downright disgusted.

I don’t even watch TV more than about 5 hours a week and now yet another of the few shows I watch is getting the axe. This one ranks right up there with Firefly.

The only good move Disney has made lately is buying Marvel.

Thank you all Seeker staff and fans.

  • By Kim, April 27, 2010 @ 7:11 pm

Very disappointing, enjoyed the show. I big thanks to all the cast and crew, you guys did a phenomenal job. Wishing you all the best of luck in your future projects : ) YOU ROCK!
    Cheers
    Kim

  • By Lindsey, April 27, 2010 @ 9:26 pm

@Jason & Fuat & Snow White & Flip Thanks guys! You all make sites like this fun to run! And while Chris and I are extremely sad to see the show, and our weekly dose of Bridget, come to an end. We’re looking forward to seeing her future projects like The Best and the Brightest which is due out Christmas this year.

  • By Lindsey, April 27, 2010 @ 9:39 pm

Eeek, one more thing. For all of you who are upset at Disney and think we should still be pushing the letter writing campaign, here’s a few things to consider.

The problem here isn’t that Disney canceled Legend out right, it’s that they couldn’t find a station to air it. Seeker is a syndicated show and if no station, or groups such as Tribune, buy the show then there’s no place for the show to be aired. Disney is not going to produce a show that will never be shown and, therefore, won’t generate them any profits.

Also, Disney DID try to shop the show around. They didn’t toss in the towel when Tribune called it quits, they actively tried to sell it to stations like SyFy but for whatever reason that just didn’t work.

Promoting the show didn’t fall to Disney, it fell to whatever station was showing it. They were the ones who should have been airing commercials. Other promotional stuff, like online contests and such, that probably fell under ABC Studio’s purview, but I don’t know.

  • By Dman, April 28, 2010 @ 2:41 am

Bridget Regan made the show ! Definitely will miss this lady hope to see her on other shows that highlight her amazing talent. We fell in love with her last season and she have left us breathless every week. I do prefer her natural look. So much natural inner beauty in season one when we were introduced to the love story. She has so much endearing qualities so easy to fall in love with. Hope to see her on the big screen.

Most of you have probably heard that Legend of the Seeker has been canceled. But We cant give up! “The fight is NOT over, not by a longshot. We fans MUST fight to the end.
The fact is, Seeker doesn’t normally resume production until mid-July. There is still time. We just cannot have a defeatist attitude here. Shows have been saved before due to fan response, and if we work relentlessly to deliver that thundering fan response, I firmly believe we can give the breath of life to this series.”
Star Trek was cancelled once and the fans got it renewed and now its a tv legend.

  • By Dennis, April 28, 2010 @ 9:03 am

Respectfully Lindsey, while Tribune’s inability to manage their company effectively appears to be the direct reason for Seeker’s end, I do not withhold contempt for Disney in this matter. Please remember, The Walt Disney Company owns dozens of channels, not the least which are:
    - ABC
    - ABC Family
    - Disney Channel
(Seeker would fit easily on one of these if they wished.) Sure SyFi would be great, but whats wrong with putting it on Disney Channel or ABC? Who thinks V (on ABC, Tues, 10pm) is a better show than Seeker?

I’ll also point out that Disney owns Hulu, where many people end up watching Seeker because of the horrid time slot it got stuck with… and where ratings don’t get counted. They were only counting syndicate ratings.

Ratings also are not counted on Netflix, where everybody I knows watches it. So to say ratings were low, but then not count Hulu and Netflix, is plain dishonesty by Disney. (By the way, Disney gets paid every time you view a “Watch Now” on Netflix, so it wouldn’t hurt to click play on your Netflix account when you leave in the morning.)

What about internationaly, where Disney ownes networks that show in 80 countries on over 100 channels? Not a factor.

Seeker didn’t “succeed” because it wasn’t given a “proper chance”. Disney media doesn’t discover hits, they MAKE hits. For whatever reason, Disney didn’t back it up enough to see it be a success; the business model they used was a failure.

  • By Dennis, April 28, 2010 @ 9:17 am

P.S. A modicum of hope: Seinfeld was canceled after Season 1. They took a break for one year, retooled, and came back as a hit.

Star Trek (the orig) wasn’t any great success on TV and was nearly canceled after season 1. Due to a letter writing campaign by fans, they brought it back for season 2 where again it was nearly canceled, and was finally canceled after season 3. Not until they made the movies (on the heels of Star Wars’ box office success) did it become the icon it is today.

My point is this: if fans were to organize, and stay organized, with a clamoring to Disney or SyFi or whatev, mayhaps after a year break some executive with two brain cells to rub together could give the breath of life to Seeker.

I will continue writing my weekly letter to Disney.

  • By fuat atalayer, April 28, 2010 @ 9:56 am

Agree with Dennis. Well although it seems that the decision had been made, i really dont want to sit back and accept this news without doing something. I am in for anything that is going to be done. i dont like to lose like Captain Kirk says :) ( i think that line was from the movie “Warth of khan”)
i also agree with Dennis’s evaluations about the marketing of this show (and business point of view). if someone wants this show to continue, then it will. And he/she doesn’t.

  • By Busse, April 28, 2010 @ 1:38 pm

So were is the beef … is Bridget just going back to New York … to that http://twitter.com/CAMPWANATACHI , as she pointed out many times that she me “theater-Feedback” … to bad for us folks “all” over the world ….

I also dont think that the movie best and brightes is to be shown anywhere soon … no trailer out and no date for air ;(

Bridget we “love” your aperiance … an Twitter Followers of almost 10k is not to bad ;)

  • By JenRox, April 28, 2010 @ 2:17 pm

    I just teared up :(

  • By Sarah, April 28, 2010 @ 5:21 pm

Apparently there might be a teeny tiny smidgeon of hope? That might be why we haven’t heard an official announcement and the Seeker peeps are keeping mum. Maybe they can’t say anything until it’s official…. (I’ve been watching Dayna’s Twitter.)

  • By debRab, April 29, 2010 @ 8:14 am

There are a lot of fan efforts continuing to save the show. Unfortunately it is a bit scattered, and hard to follow – It’s on Facebook, Twitter, Live Journal, Legend of the Seeker.org and other places. Lindsey and Chris – as owners of this site – are you able to do anything to help unify this effort????? I know a lot of Bridget and LOTS fans come here for info. Thanks!

  • By Dennis, April 29, 2010 @ 9:09 am

debRab is right.. its super scattered. Some simplification/unification would help.

But really, the simplicity of this one slim chance we have left(IMO) lies in letter writing. EVERY FAN needs to be hand writing a polite but passionate letter to Disney-ABC (and SyFy?) EVERY DAY. Thats the easiest and still most effective way to get their attention.

I also think buying DVDs and doing “Watch Now” on Netflix can’t hurt. But letter writing is the way to go.

Have you written yours today? I have. :)

  • By Tim, April 29, 2010 @ 3:56 pm

I just wanna say that i feel bad. I hadn’t even heard of Seeker until I saw Clash of the Titans and started getting back in to a fantasy mindset. I started looking on the web for a good show to fill my thirst.

I bought season one and and on the last 2 episodes. I love this show already and don’t want it to end. The acting is great and it has a great plot and back story. I will definitely write and e-mail. I don’t want It to end.

I also have a few friends that I have gotten interested that i will try to get them all to watch these last few episodes of this season. Hopefuly, if many try to get just a few friends to do this we can boost the ratings like crazy and someone will see and wanna pick up the show.

Do everything we can. There should always be a good fantasy TV show on that this it the epitome of an example. We need to try all we can to get it going again.

  • By Melissa, April 29, 2010 @ 10:58 pm

I am extremely disappointed in the news of Legend of the Seekers cancellation. I believe that it is a shame and waste of a great show. The cast and crew did such a fantastic job, especially Bridget. She made the show for me, she was absolutely wonderful in her portrayal of Kahlan. There is so much story left to tell that it isn’t right that it is being cancelled.

I watch Legend of the Seeker on WGNAmerica and there was no advertising of the show. I have spoken to several friends and my brother and none of them had ever heard of the show. Stand up job WGN of promoting your shows. It was on at different times and all that. This is not the first show that they ruined. Thanks for nothing WGN. Have a nice life because I don’t plan on watching anything on your crappy station.

Lets take off the good shows and put more reality crap on TV. There seems to be more and more of that coming on. Unfortnately there are those who truly enjoy those shows. I would rather watch Legend of the Seeker. I am hoping that the powers that be will come to their collective senses and realize the gigantic mistake that they are making and bring Legend of the Seeker back. I would rather see it every week but I would be more than willing for mini-series or maybe direct to dvd movies. The thought of this show ending makes me sad, angry and I can’t really describe the rest. It is my favorite show. I was able to get so involved in the episodes that I was able to escape the daily grind. I just can’t believe it. Well time to go write some more letters, emails, etc.

I’m saddened and disappointed…now I’m only left with 2 shows I enjoy. Legend of the Seeker was my absolute favorite show and now it’s gone. Thanks for nothing Disney and ABC… you can keep your reality shows, your worn out and old cop shows (honestly, how many ways can someone kill another human being?!!) and your hospital drama/romance shows. I don’t watch any of them. I rarely watch regular TV anymore period.
No more Legend of the Seeker…that’s a tragedy…
