***Persimmon Update 3/6*** Thanks to Melissa (Queen of Efficiency) over at Nuts Online we now have the perfect way for you to send persimmons to Tribune!  They’ve got a special page set up for  us that makes ordering easy as possible. If you head on over to their Save Legend of the Seeker page here: http://www.nutsonline.com/gifts/legend and use it to order persimmons they’ll automatically fill in Tribune’s address for you and send the persimmons straight there. Even better, on the packing slip they’re going to print: “Hey, Tribune, did Shota spell you with a persimmon and cause you to forget to renew ‘Legend of the Seeker’?” Nuts Online is the same company that helped successfully stage the Jericho nut campaign a few years ago so they know what they’re doing!

***TRIBUNE UPDATE 3/3*** Ok guys, I know we’ve been asking a lot of you recently but we need a REALLY BIG push to help get a third season of Legend of the Seeker. This tweet was made earlier today and it is accurate. Legend of the Seeker WILL NOT be renewed unless Tribune picks it up for a 3rd season. Tribune is currently having some financial issues and while this is undoubtedly part of the reason they have yet to renew Seeker it’s something that we, as fans, can overcome and help save our show. Tribune owns several local stations that show LotS as well as WGN which airs Seeker all over the US. I’ve made up list of Tribune stations showing Legend of the Seeker here: http://herblueeyes.com/2010/03/03/tribune-stations-showing-legend-of-the-seeker/ Please, please, please write in!

You can also write to the President of Tribune Broadcasting directly:
Ed Wilson, President
Tribune Broadcasting
435 North Michigan Avenue
Chicago, IL 60611
312.222.9100

Or the Chairman of the Tribune Company:
Sam Zell, Chairman
Tribune Company
435 North Michigan Avenue
Chicago, IL 60611

If you’re tired of writing letters and want to send something a bit out of the ordinary, a fan wrote into the site and suggested we start mailing in persimmon slices with the note: “Hey, Tribune (or the name of your local station), did Shota spell you with a persimmon and cause you to forget to renew ‘Legend of the Seeker’?” I LOVE this idea! If you do this, make sure that your sending in the dried out variety instead of the actual fruit, rotten persimmon is probably not the message we want to send.

***Update 2/26*** As Mike tweeted this morning, there’s yet to be a decision about Season 3. What does this mean for us? Keep writing! I’m told that a decision might not get made until May and EVERY letter counts! Also, if you’re going to write a letter to ABC Studios please don’t write Legend of the Seeker on the envelope, it causes the mail to be delivered to the LotS writing team instead of anyone with decision power over Legend of the Seeker. To further that end, when you address your letter address it to ABC Studios, not Legend of the Seeker. That way your Save the Seeker letter is sure to get to the right person.

In an effort to make everything easier to find, we’ve streamlined, so please use the links below to find what you are looking for and help us Save the Seeker!

Want to see a third season of Legend of the Seeker starring our very own Bridget Regan? Mike Sussman, Writer/Co-Executive Producer of the show, has asked that we all write into our local Seeker showing stations (ah, alliteration) and ABC/Disney to let them know that we want more of the show. Syndicated shows, like LotS, are only on the air as long as stations are buying them so writing to your local (or not so local if you’re so inclined) station and letting them know you love the show would really help. According to Mike, written letters are better then email! Writting to ABC is just as important, if not more so, then writting to your local station. Please be respectful and polite in your message, it really does make a difference. Running your message through spell check so it looks all nice and shiny couldn’t hurt either.

So I heard mailing a letter is more effective, is this true?

  • By ark, February 5, 2010 @ 2:06 am

Oh, darn. I so wish I could write a letter to any of these stations, but I’m not from the US. Those of you who are: Please, please write.

  • By cosmin, February 5, 2010 @ 3:53 am

i could write too but i am not from America.. i’ll try anyway and i won’t mention that i am not an American.

  • By Flip, February 5, 2010 @ 8:41 am

@Lindsey, you are too good. If I can help with expenses for your site, please let me know. Your time into this is incredible.

@John..ask @writtenbyMike on Twitter. “Mike” is Mike Sussman, one the executive producer of LOTS. He generally will respond to questions of that nature.

Family Guy was reinstated by Fox twice (3 times?) because of fans writing local stations, it works!! It also shows (since FG is SO popular) the Executives don’t always really know what the heck they are doing. I have been on a Board of a big firm and I have seen it first hand.

    So write those letters!!

  • By fuat atalayer, February 5, 2010 @ 9:13 am

    @flip
i am in Turkey, we have only one episode left completing season one. i am sure station (a digital platform)would buy 2. Season but in case i will write them a letter and send them an e-mail too. Furthermore, i want to send a letter to USA to support your efforts. What do you thing? Where should i send my letter? if there is an address (like HQ or kinda), i will send as soon as possible.
    Thanks in advance and regards

  • By Lindsey, February 5, 2010 @ 9:41 am

@fuat HQ in this case would be the two Disney links at the bottom of the post. But no one says you can’t send a letter to your local station in Turkey talking about how much you love the show and you hope it continues for many years.

@cosmin Write to your local station, it doesn’t have to be in America. Again, LotS is only on the air so long as stations are buying it.

@flip We have an awesome host (Monte Carlo Hosting) and our operating expenses aren’t too bad. But thanks for the offer!

  • By cosmin, February 5, 2010 @ 9:56 am

i am from Romania and they just started to air season 1 on tv.. is at episode 5. anyway i wrote to all those American tv stations + the one that is airing lots here in Romania.

    :)

  • By fuat atalayer, February 5, 2010 @ 10:57 am

Thanks Lindsey, i will send a letter to local station; i am one of the oldest members in that platform anyway :) if those 2 addresses are HQ then, in that case i send my letter to both of them :) . Anything for Bridget :) (ops:) sorry, Legend of the Seeker) :)

  • By Flip, February 5, 2010 @ 4:50 pm

@faut Lindsey has linked the local station (as you see) My guess is WPIX in NYC is the biggest and most important.
    http://www.wpix.com/about/contact/

But if we can get EVERYONE to go to EACH Local station than I think it will helps…and of course “local” is all relative. If you live on the other side of the Milky Way then Turkey to New York or Portland is MIGHTY close.

    HIT EACH STATION!!!!

  • By Flip, February 5, 2010 @ 8:06 pm

Mike Sussman answered you question..was this you?

RT “writing in to TV stations about season 3. Is it more effective to write a letter?” /via @ShiftxGT Yes, real letters on paper are best.

  • By Mike Sussman, February 5, 2010 @ 8:57 pm

You guys are just too awesome. Everyone on “Legend of the Seeker” is so very grateful for all the love and support.

So. I’ve gotten a lot of questions from people, asking what they can do to help make sure we get a 3rd season.

If you live in the U.S., a letter to your local station is probably the best way to show your support. In the U.S., these stations need to know that people are watching “Seeker” and want more of it – and if the show is on at an inconvenient time, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to also ask them to put us on in a better time slot, too! Better times means more viewers.

If you’ve already written to your local station, you can also show your support by sending a letter to Disney-ABC Domestic Television –

    Disney-ABC Domestic Television
    500 S. Buena Vista Street
    Burbank, CA 91521

If you’re really hard core, you could also write to ABC Studios –

    ABC Studios
    500 S. Buena Vista Street
    Burbank, CA 91521

International folks who want to help should write to whatever broadcaster/network/station airs LOTS in their local area. The international audience is a big chunk of our viewership so it’s important you be heard from. If you’re an international viewer, and you’ve already written to your local “Seeker” broadcaster, a second letter to ABC Studios would also be helpful.

If you’ve been thinking of buying the Season One DVDs or downloading the episodes from iTunes, now would be a VERY good time. Those sales numbers are looked at closely by studios.

Again I can’t thank you guys enough for everything you’ve done on behalf of the show. I hope we can be bringing you fresh “Seeker” adventures for many years to come.

    -Mike Sussman
    Co-Executive Producer,
    “Legend of the Seeker”

  • By Chris, February 5, 2010 @ 9:29 pm

Thank you so much, Mike, for the compliments and stopping by with the advice for how to keep Seeker rolling. As you may have gathered, we love Bridget but we also love the show as a whole and want to see it keep going. We’ll do all we can to help that along and continue to support Bridget and Seeker in all that we do!

  • By RandyAW, February 5, 2010 @ 10:16 pm

Did my part….after all I really don’t want to have to go and find something to do on Saturday nights now.

    @Flip
Yes that was me :) Thanks Flip

  • By Flip, February 6, 2010 @ 8:45 am

@Mike, thx for stopping up and filling us in with more details. I Twittered all I could think of to this link. I have trying to get Bridget to retweet this link as she has a growing following….which of course means she has no time to read a billion Twitters or act on them. Mike would you say “Program Director” would be the guy to send to?

I realize I am suppose to send to ONE…but I do travel and local is all relative for me too. ;-)

Folks, any ideas on how to get this out on a MASS scale?? I will continue to twitter other fan sites this link.

Maybe order 200 season 1 dvd’s and return 199 at later time? JUST Kidding.

  • By darkops, February 6, 2010 @ 10:14 am

Michael Ausiello finally offered some scoop about Legend of the Seeker this week:

    ———————-

Question: Week after week after week I ask for some Legend of the Seeker scoop, and week after week after week my hopes are dashed. But you won’t break me. I’ll keep on asking you. So, what’s coming up on one of the most underrated shows on television? —Jeff
Ausiello: Go out and buy yourself one of those Win for Life lottery scratch-offs, because today is your lucky day. Exec producer Ken Biller just dropped this mammoth spoiler on my lap: “One of our leads — I won’t say who — is going to die.” Wait, there’s more! In an episode slated to air later this month, “Kahlen is going to suddenly find herself without her powers, which not only puts her in danger, but also creates a situation in which she is potentially no longer a danger to Richard. The question [then] becomes, ‘Can they in fact be together?’ Of course as the episode unfolds, we realize everything is not what it seems. The situation is far more complicated than it originally appears.”

    ———————-

Now, I’m not posting this because of the “scoop”, b/c most LotS fans are rabid and already know these little tidbits. What is cool about this is that Ausiello’s column usually caters to well-known, popular TV shows. The fact that LotS is mentioned in his column and in a BIG way is a good thing for our show. What’s also great is the fact that a massive LotS discussion breaks out in the comments section where people declare their love for the show and the fact that many of them watch the show several times a week.

Any exposure is good exposure. Why not stop by there and post a comment about how much you enjoy the show… or how nice it is that LotS was included in his column? ;)

  • By Roi, February 6, 2010 @ 10:23 am

Hi guys. I am from israel and hooked with “lots”. I’ve read all the comments and instantly contacted a family relative of mine from the usa. He managed to arrange for me 76 people that sent letters to disney and ABC. Also, i sent letters to almost all of the stations. And i’m trying to convince a local station here at israel to buy the show and broadcast it here. I hope that it will help.

  • By Ella, February 6, 2010 @ 10:26 am

It’s great to hear that we can write in to show our support for another great season to LOTS. One question though, with regards to the ABC Studios ; the contact link says that I have to be a press member, which I’m not. Is there any other way I can write to ABC Studios? Thanks!

  • By Sarah, February 6, 2010 @ 10:27 am

Wow, you guys are all awesome. There are actually two stations by me that currently air LotS, so I guess I’m writing both. :)

    Good luck, everybody!

  • By Matteo, February 6, 2010 @ 10:35 am

Great idea! For sure, I’d like to help: as any of you, I love LotS and Bridget. I’ve got one question, though: can I write to the stations and/or to ABC o Disney even if I’m not a US citizen?

U see, I happen to be Italian so I thought t’was better asking first ^^

  • By Alessia, February 6, 2010 @ 11:02 am

Even if sending a letter would be th best thing, you guys could send a letter and a postcard too!Take a look at this link, that’s interesting: Legend of the Seeker Postcards: http://community.livejournal.com/speckle_dots/20828.html?view=487772#t487772

Hi there Lindsay, I was wondering if I could repost this on our site http://www.legendoftheseeker.org? Only with your permission of course, Thanks.

  • By Lindsey, February 6, 2010 @ 11:27 am

@Ella & Matteo Sure, write away. Fans are fans are fans regardless of where they come from. But make sure you local station. The address underneath the ABC Studios link is where you would mail an actual physical letter.

    @Richlan Check your e-mail. :)

  • By Flip, February 6, 2010 @ 11:43 am

I have been hitting all the fan sites and trying to get them to get a separate section on their own (or web link here)
    http://www.legendseeker.net/2010/02/06/news-help-legend-of-the-seeker-get-season-3/

There seems to be a lot out there…if you know of others let them know (I link this page here, I hope it id OK Lindsey?…sry, I forgot to ask..ugh). Most seem to be willing to continue the push for SEASON 3!!

  • By Lindsey, February 6, 2010 @ 12:17 pm

@Flip and anyone else I don’t mind you all posting my work in other places. I’m happy to facilitate that by even sending you the html for the post. HOWEVER if you do post my stuff and links that it took me a couple of hours to round up than PLEASE credit me and/or the site and link back to the site.

  • By Richlan, February 6, 2010 @ 12:32 pm

@ Lindsay :) I’ve checked my mail, but nothings there. I’ll just add it to the site for now and link the news back here.

  • By Lindsey, February 6, 2010 @ 1:11 pm

@Richlan Hmmmm. I’ll send it again and hopefully we’ll get better results. Also, minor quibble, my name’s spelled with an e not an a. ;)

  • By Richlan, February 6, 2010 @ 1:19 pm

@ Lindsey Geee, I’m sorry about misspelling your name :) I have a friend and her name is spelled with an a.
Still no luck with the email, I don’t know why though. I’m getting all sorts of others apart from yours… I’ll see if I can remember my second email account.

  • By Richlan, February 6, 2010 @ 1:23 pm

@Lindsey Okay, maybe you could try this email address. If this one doesn’t work I am out of ideas.

  • By Sebatian, February 6, 2010 @ 2:51 pm

Hi, i just started my adventure with LotS but i hope (and i will fight) there will be more seasons. I’m from poland, and I’ll send letters, and postcards to my local station and to ABC Studios. I hope they know how important LotS is for all of us.

  • By Loretta, February 6, 2010 @ 3:53 pm

Oh I ‘II write a letter for third season but I’m not from the US.But I wont season 3

  • By Erica, February 6, 2010 @ 7:40 pm

I am SOOOO impressed with “The Legend Of The Seeker” series, I will be sending 3 letters very soon. 1 to my local staion, 1 to disney-ABC domestic tv and 1 to ABC studios. Im glad that i can help in this small way. I read Mr. Goodkind’s seeker saga and its by far my favorite. When I heard that they were coming out with a series i was so excited! Its not chapter for chapter or book for book BUT I believe they have done a wonderful job. SOOO much of novels are internal narration and how can you make that into a show? Miss Regan Looks just like i thought Kaylan should!! I instantly fell in love with her. Well I’d better get writing! Im hoping that I can get them to put the series on a better nite and time. I mean saturday at 8pm? my 2yrold is still up at that time and im trying to put her to bed…thank god for netflix, now if i miss it i can watch it on monday

  • By whitefalcon1316, February 6, 2010 @ 7:58 pm

maybe we should have somewhat of identical letters. I understand if you wanna go into details about why/what you personally love the show… but I think if we have some similarity in there it will show that the fans are united. Just an idea, we could:

    1. ALWAYS have a header/first line bigger and bolder than the rest of the letter that maybe says:

Seeking for a 3rd season of LEGEND OF THE SEEKER!

Cause as much heart as we put into the letter, we don’t know if they even take the time to read the whole thing.

“Chuck” on NBC was saved by the increase in buying Subway sandwhiches + mailings/going to subway website to fill out a customer services letter. They knew it was for “Chuck” because it stood out.

So we should do something to make our letters stand out too!

or 2: make LotS 3rd Season Postcards that we can all print out from our homes onto cardstock paper? and just send in….

I could/would personally send out 100 of these because it would be faster and easier than writing 100 pages worth of a letter.

    What do you guys think???

  • By aleynarose, February 6, 2010 @ 8:23 pm

Just so you know, the link to the postcards on LiveJournal that you included sends you to Facebook. :)

I’ll be printing out a few postcards tomorrow as well as writing a handwritten note or two to send out on Monday. Here’s to a 3rd season!!

  • By PAT GIBSON, February 6, 2010 @ 9:29 pm

The legend of the seeker caught my eye when I switching channels. This is the type of show I love. a 3rd season would be awesome. Please don’t leave us hanging.

  • By Lindsey, February 6, 2010 @ 9:48 pm

@aleynarose Well isn’t THAT embarrassing. I’ve fixed the link, thanks!

  • By Daniel Jay, February 6, 2010 @ 10:05 pm

I purchased two copies of season one (one for myself and one for a friend. I’ve been telling all of my family and friends to watch the show too. I also have an online class that we post within. I made a new post titled “favorite TV show” and mentioned Legend of the Seeker as being the best show ever.

Does anyone know how the viewership on hulu.com factors into the executives decision making? I think a lot of people watch the show their (I do).

  • By Lindsey, February 6, 2010 @ 10:42 pm

@Richlan I think the problem here is your spam filter eating my e-mail address. I’ve resent the e-mail from my home e-mail and we’ll see if that has any better luck!

  • By Flip, February 6, 2010 @ 10:46 pm

    @whitefalcon. great ideas!!

    even dangling chads, no problem!

I figure a few rounds fired off (of letters) over a period of time.

Maybe Richard on the show could wear a T-shirt promoting a season 3 and write the local TV stations?? Man that is 2.4m viewers writing the networks…it would be a tidal wave. Maybe Ted Raimi could be a Midlands T-shirt maker instead of map maker….OK I’ll stop.

@Lindsey…I am not sure you could be any more awesome.

  • By Speckles, February 7, 2010 @ 12:41 am

Hey, I’m happy to help! I just really hope that we can get this show back for third season. Keep the lovely Bridget on our screens! If anyone has any postcards that they’d like to offer up, any other designs they’d like to share. They’re welcome to leave a comment on that livejournal post and I will add their art to it for everyone.

  • By Emil, February 7, 2010 @ 5:31 am

Hello, i relly like this series would be awsome if there was a third season.

    Cheers

  • By Nadia, February 7, 2010 @ 5:55 am

I just want to say that Legend of the Seeker is a great show and I want not only a 3rd season, but a lot more :) The show has fans all over the world. I am from Bulgaria and we may not be included in the counting of the viewers but we like the show and want it to stay on the air.

  • By Jack Kribs, February 7, 2010 @ 6:54 am

I have read all the books many times, and I love the show, keep it going. The actors and story line are great.

  • By Snow White, February 7, 2010 @ 7:25 am

I’ll email in to all the stations. I hope it helps, as I won’t be able to post stuff, I don’t live in the US.

I really hope Legend of the Seeker gets renewed. It’s my favorite series on TV.

  • By Flip, February 7, 2010 @ 8:57 am

Hey guys, so good to see so many LOTS fans around here, including one of my countrymen from Romania. :)

I have contacted ABC studios since I live in California now and KTXL/FOX40 (the station that airs the show near Sacramento) pleading for a season three.

I just love Bridget, Craig and Tabrett (not to mention Jolene (even if she’s not blonde like the original Nicci!).

I like the show too much! I own the audio books, the DVD and all the episodes.

Hope my email’s and letters, though meager, will help a little bit in our efforts.

I’m glad I’m part of this community of fans, and I wish to thank Mike Sussman, Ted Raimi and their whole team for the effort, and the joy they brought with this show to many of us.

    Good Luck!

  • By Jeremy, February 8, 2010 @ 1:26 am

when they chose Bridget for Kahlan I wonder if the ad said “Looking for the hottest woman on TV” And this show should most definitely stay on the air. I wrote my station!

Ted Raimi Interview (his brother is Sam, LOTS executive producer)

From Ted ..LOL..never thought of this avenue.

I’ve sent an e-mail to my local station, and will send letters to Disney and ABC. I love Legend of the Seeker, especially Richard. I’ll be absolutely devastated if lotS goes off the air. I try my hardest to never miss an episode even if when it is a rerun, if only just to see Richard. And Kahlan is awesome, so beatiful and skilled. I pray our letters are affective.

  • By nedzad, February 9, 2010 @ 2:06 pm

I’m not from the US but those of you who are please write! Legend of the seeker has so many more stories to tell.

  • By Vanessa, February 9, 2010 @ 8:35 pm

I really love this show and I will be completely devastated if it is cancelled after only two seasons. Richard and Kahlan’s story is not finished. Long Live the Seeker!

  • By Jennie Bufford, February 9, 2010 @ 10:52 pm

If you don’t think you can write one because you are not american you can write one and send it to my e-mail and I will send it out!! I want more seeker so I will do anything to help!!!!

  • By Flip, February 10, 2010 @ 8:13 am

Lindsey, nice job getting this section front and center!!

You are the one at the lead of this charge!! Great work! I am sure this stuff does not get unnoticed by the local stations.

    What else could we do??

  • By Lindsey, February 10, 2010 @ 10:45 am

@flip You can buy Legend of the Seeker on DVD or off of iTunes. That’s $ in the bank for Disney and shows that the show is a profitable venture worthy of continuing.

just a week ago people started asking for 3rd season you people work fast!!! keep going

  • By Flip, February 10, 2010 @ 6:49 pm

@Lindsey Did that. like Disney NEEDS more money….oh well it is part of the process…return on investment..blah blah. I live that stuff everyday. Clients always want MORE money..ha

My guess is just keep hammering them with letters….oh AND BETTER TIME SLOT. I don’t think anyone has addressed that issue very much.

  • By Sarah, February 11, 2010 @ 6:53 pm

I work for a TV station and the station that actually airs LotS is run out of our building (though completely different network) and I’ve actually helped with commercials for it. Anyways, I’m just wondering if anyone has a suggestion on what I could do? I want to help but not sure how.

  • By Danilo, February 11, 2010 @ 8:38 pm

I realy Want to see more and more of legend of the seeker, it’s BIG Show and definately have million of fans fallowing his. we need this PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE : )

  • By Lindsey, February 12, 2010 @ 2:09 am

@Sarah Hmmmm, that’s an interesting question. I’d take the programing director some cookies and tell them that you really appreciate them showing Legend of the Seeker and you hope it’ll continue on for a few more seasons.

  • By fuat atalayer, February 12, 2010 @ 6:08 am

    @ Sarah
i can bake an apple pie (from Swiss recipe), i can DHL to you, if you want :)

  • By Flip, February 12, 2010 @ 8:02 am

@ Sarah…Gosh, probably the best thing is to find out what HE thinks is the best way to get season 3 resigned…..(I know ratings, but…) But maybe he knows the hot buttons for program directors.

It certainly is a numbers game, but I wonder since Fox cut one their most successful shows (Family Guy) MULTIPLE times. Is politics a big part of the equation? If so this letter push is exactly the right answer…….as it worked for Family Guy…and thank goodness for Fox.

“”Although Fox initially announced Family Guy’s cancellation following the second season, Fox decided to make a third season,[8][9] after which they canceled the series in early 2002. However, reruns on Adult Swim drove up interest in the show, and its DVD releases did quite well, selling over 2.2 million copies in one year, which renewed network interest.[10] Family Guy returned to production in 2004, marking the first revival of a television show based on DVD sales”"

    Presently
“”The show is contracted to continue producing episodes until 2012.”"

    Bad politics?

“”During its second and third-season runs, Fox frequently moved the show around different days and time slots with little or no notice and, consequently, the show’s ratings suffered.”"

Time slots can be critical it appears and it almost seemed Fox was trying to kill Family guy. What do you think Sarah? LOTS needs a better time slot to help ratings and DVD sales.

  • By Daniel Jay, February 12, 2010 @ 10:44 am

Has everyone purchased Season 1 on DVD? That’s a real big help. If you can afford it… buy another copy and give it to a friend that does not watch the show currently. I purchased two season 1 DVD’s and wrote in to my local station. I’ll also write to Netflix since they have Legend of the Seeker on there too for instant viewing.

  • By darkops, February 12, 2010 @ 11:27 am

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that Michael Ausiello had mentioned LotS in his column for the first time. I sent him an email thanking him. He responded to me in his latest column. ;)

Doing what I can for the show! :)

    *** SPOILER WARNING ***

Question: Thank you for mentioning Legend of the Seeker in your last Ask Ausiello column. I really love the show and the more exposure it gets, the better. — Jason
Ausiello: I’m glad you feel that way, because exec producer Ken Biller gave me at least three more weeks’ worth of scoop. “We are doing a really fun episode that is guest starring Parker Stevenson of The Hardy Boys and Baywatch fame,” reveals Biller. “He’s playing a nobleman who has made a deal with the Keeper — who in our world is essentially the devil — for eternal life in exchange for turning over Kahlan. And because he is going to live eternally but be relegated to the confines of his own kingdom, he needs to choose a new wife. And so the character of Cara, who is the least ladylike of all our characters, in order to infiltrate the palace and rescue Kahlan, is going to have to try and pose as a very ladylike princess. That’s a lot of fun. Zed and Richard have to go in with her as her royal retinue and keep up this ruse in order to try to rescue Kahlan.”

  • By Lucas, February 12, 2010 @ 4:50 pm

    To the Programming Director:

I am a loyal viewer of the show Legend of the Seeker. It is my hope that this show will be renewed for a third season. Legend of the Seeker fills the void in fantasy television left when Xena: The Warrior Princess ended. As the creators of that hugely successful show, the individuals behind Legend of the Seeker are uniquely qualified to bring exactly that kind of entertainment to the many people who enjoy such programming.

I believe that Legend of the Seeker can become an even bigger success in its third season than it already is, given the proper promotion. An improved time slot would be nice as well. There is a large audience for fantasy, as proven by the aforementioned Xena, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and the incredible success of the Lord of the Rings films.

It is deeply appreciated that you have been bringing Legend of the Seeker to me and many others in its first 2 seasons. This program already delights people worldwide and surely a third season would find even more fans discovering it and becoming as enchanted by the magic, romance and drama of Seeker as I am. Thank you for your time.

    Sincerely,

I have read all the books, and though LotS doesn’t follow the bookd to the T, I still love the series and would like to continue watching it. I am writing my local station ASAP.

  • By Sparty, February 13, 2010 @ 10:42 pm

I noticed that there was another Sarah so I changed my name so you could tell the difference.

@Flip: I agree, it’s definitely about politics. It’s not unheard of for a station to place a tv show in a certain time spot so that it fails and gives them a reason to get rid of it. Fridays are known as the “death spot” for tv shows, though some still do well. It’s mainly because Friday nights are when most people leave for the weekend and nobody is around to watch tv. Likewise, why there are few original shows on Saturdays. Sunday nights do slightly better because people have returned home by than from their weekend.

I’m not sure what time/day would be good for LotS since it’s not played on one of the Big Three networks. It would have major competition if it was moved to a night during the week. I’m not sure how it is in other areas, but I know that the station it’s played on here is known more for playing re-runs of current tv shows which means many people don’t tune into the station unless they want to watch them and are most likely unaware that LotS even exist.

@Lindsey & Fuat: I would love to do that! The only thing that’s hard about it is that I don’t want to come off as unprofessional, you know? Maybe I’ll write into a bigger station.

Sorry, this turned out much longer than I meant.

  • By Flip, February 14, 2010 @ 9:31 am

@Sparty, thank you. Interesting post. Reruns seem incredibly powerful these days. Ratings are so high for reruns in the popular shows. I know my kids watch the same shows over and over again. It seems a game of longevity and growing and fully faithful following.

But what you are saying is even moving LOTS to a prime time could be worse for it (assuming the competition)? Makes sense.

I am curious, why would not stations put reruns (of new shows) more often than they do now for LOTS? For example putting LOTS on 2-3 times in a few days for those that could not watch at their time slot. Even at really late night.

  • By Sparty, February 14, 2010 @ 10:16 am

@Flip: I should say that my previous post is more of my opinion than anything else. The tricky part with ratings is that so many people still record instead of watching it live that it is hard to tell exactly how many people really watch it. Therefore, I suggest watching it live as much as possible.

I think re-airing them could help especially at like 10pm or something when most primetime shows are over. The only thing with that is again, politics. Stations are going to air what makes them money so they aren’t going to re-air something and take up programming time if they can air another tv show that will draw in more viewers.

Again, this is just my opinion though.

Also, it’s nice meeting and talking with you Flip and everyone else. :)

In Turkey, we have just finished LoTS first season. the time slot is(was)really good, at 9.00 p.m. on thusday. in other channel, at the same time (by the way it is a digital platform and their own channels) Grey’s Anatomy is on. For 22 weeks it has been aired at prime time. i thing they were happy about raitings. if i miss somehow i watch saturday at 10.00 p.m. which is not a bad time spot at all.

i know that it is all about money commercials, profit. this show is a good one. i do anything to watch the show. i am lucky that it has good time slots so far. what i want to say if the show has good time slot, raitings would be better and channels can make money. thats my idea ofc. it can be wrong or can be argued.
As i posted before this show deserves 3rd and more seasons. i wish i could do something more to convince the decision makers. (its not a difficult one to decide to 3rd season. if they had a chance to watch “Torn”, if they warch Bridget how great she is. it is not a joke i mean it). all i could do is shooting my mails to every possible address or mailing my letters.

need to finish here, i will watch Star Wars IV :)

keep sending letters and mails to channels pls.

  • By Terri, February 14, 2010 @ 3:21 pm

Thank you Mike for allowing us to be a part of attempting to keep this awesome show on tv. Thank you, also, for all of your hard work.

  • By TheZigg4, February 14, 2010 @ 7:33 pm

I will try and write a letter also to my local station. But like what are they looking in the letter? But could I send both an email and a letter? I really enjoy watching this show and the acting in it is amazing for I wish that this show would go for a total of ten seasons for there are ten books. I could use some advice on writing the letter or an email. Could people help me like what should I put in it? And I will go out and buy the first season I didn’t know that it was out or I would already own it.

  • By TheZigg4, February 14, 2010 @ 7:42 pm

Shoot never mind I just found the letters it finally let me open the screen to get to them I will print mine off and send a letter in to my local station. Thanks for creating this site so I could get the stations addresses so we can keep LOTS going.

  • By Flip, February 14, 2010 @ 9:09 pm

@Sparty, it is rare any of us outsiders get incite like you have. Thank you.

What is your educated guess on a show getting ratings in the 1.5-1.7 area…is that OK? LOTS was getting up to over 3.5m-4m viewers in the first season and that has dropped to the 2.5m area. It got me concerned awhile ago. This is an expensive show to produce, certainly.

  • By Aaron, February 15, 2010 @ 7:52 pm

I’ve written to my local station for what it’s worth. I certainly hope that quality program like LotS continue. Too many garbage programs proliferate the airwaves. Let’s support an excellent program like this!!

  • By Sparty, February 17, 2010 @ 1:19 am

@Flip: It depends on the studio. In the US, shows that play on the “Big Three” Networks (ABC, NBC, & CBS) must maintain higher viewership numbers than other networks. Other studios, such as FOX will air shows (like you pointed out, Family Guy) which much less viewers. Than there’s The CW, which airs shows such as Smallville, which has seen a decline in viewership over the past couple of years and whose previous episode only roped in about 3 million viewers. However, for The CW that’s not too bad. In my opinion, for LotS to have 2.5 million viewers, that is pretty good. I can’t speak for other areas but ours plays on a very small station called MY18, so I would say that 2.5 million is pretty dang good for a small station.

  • By Sparty, February 17, 2010 @ 1:27 am

We could always start a campaign of different things. I know that Smallville fans started a campaign last year they called Operation Wild Cherry in hopes of getting Erica Durance (Lois Lane) in all the episodes of season 9. They wrote letters, made youtube videos, and even collected money to send the set cherry flavored and colored things, like balloons and cupcakes. So that’s just an idea I wanted to throw out there. Anybody good at making youtube videos??

  • By Sparty, February 18, 2010 @ 12:10 am

Here’s some positive news over at Ask Ausiello on the Entertainment Weekly website. Don’t worry, I cut out the spoiler part.

Question: Thanks for the Cable Renewal Scorecard, but you forgot to include Legend of the Seeker. Will it be renewed? —David

Ausiello: I think you forgot that Legend is a syndicated show. That list only covered cable shows, hence the words “CABLE EDITION” in the headline. Capiche? But to answer your question, I’d say the cult fave is a safe bet for renewal.

A bit frustrating, none of the main stars have come out and done a season 3 push….they would be the best cheerleaders to get fans to write in. Not sure why they would not.

  • By Lindsey, February 18, 2010 @ 11:39 pm

@Flip It’s a bit of a tricky situation for them. If they become a pain for the studio (Disney) then that reduces the chances of the show being renewed. What studio wants a pushy actor telling them what to do? It really is better for all involved if it’s mostly a fan effort. About the best they can do is really promote this season as Bridget’s been doing this last week and Tabrett being on the cover of SciFi doesn’t hurt either. In doing so they are bumping up the ratings and that too contributes to a third season.

  • By darkops, February 19, 2010 @ 1:12 am

    @Lindsey

I completely agree. I don’t remember any actors on shows that I’ve watched coming out and asking people to take action regarding another season for their show. In fact, to me, that would seem almost undignified.

I think Bridget has been busy with plenty of interviews lately. That’s the appropriate forum for actors to subtly pitch their work/show and Bridget does a great job. Her growing Twitter prowess is shrewd social marketing for the show and herself as well. Tabrett’s interview in SciFi mag was a welcome surprise, as I don’t feel that there are enough interviews with her. That interview was barely a morsel about Tabrett. More please yes thanks.

Like you said, it should remain a fan effort.

Great show that I’ve fallen in love with and I’d be heart broken if there wasn’t any more seasons. I’ll look into sending a letter to my local channel. I’m also looking into film production and cinematography in a large portion due to LoTS

  • By TheZigg4, February 22, 2010 @ 10:01 pm

For the letters to your station do you have to include the station channel number on the front of the letter?

  • By Lindsey, February 22, 2010 @ 10:07 pm

@Zigg You have to include the station call letters or name. For example, the Baltimore station’s address is:
    WNUV CW Baltimore
    2000 W. 41st Street
    Baltimore, MD 21211

  • By TheZigg4, February 22, 2010 @ 10:42 pm

Ok Thank you. Because the Pittsburgh station is like.

I was just wondering if this was right before I sent it out.

  • By TheZigg4, February 23, 2010 @ 11:19 am

Is that right what I put? or do I have to include the
    KDKA/WPCW

SEASON HIGH for LOTS last week. Bridget you ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • By darkops, February 25, 2010 @ 4:53 pm

    @flip

Second highest (see Dec 12). But still great, especially in light of these factors.

  • By Nathan, February 26, 2010 @ 3:11 pm

I thought I’d throw this out. From Wikipedia:
“WBXX was consistently one of the highest-rated WB stations in the country, and was recognized as such by The WB network.”
WBXX is now CW20 which is my local CW affiliate, and Eastern Tennessee’s source for Legend of the Seeker. If it is as much of a big fish as Wikipedia would make it appear it is, sending some love toward wbxx.tv might be helpful.

  • By Erin, February 26, 2010 @ 4:10 pm

I wrote KTLA in Los Angeles, and I got a response that basically stated they have no say in whether the show is renewed or not and to direct my letter to ABC. I guess it was a good response since the station basically said they would continue to air LOTS if it is renewed.

  • By Shane, February 26, 2010 @ 9:47 pm

Keep makin the seasons!!! dont stop at 3 keep addin stuff!

  • By Jennhutch, February 27, 2010 @ 7:13 pm

hey i live in canada but i watch the show online i love it how do i write in? they really need to keep it going!!!

  • By Lindsey, February 27, 2010 @ 7:55 pm

@Jennhutch Write to ABC and let them know you want more of the show! Also, I don’t know what channel is broadcasting Legend of the Seeker in Canada (or even if there is one) but write to them as well. Every letter counts!

  • By Erin, February 27, 2010 @ 8:00 pm

It’s funny. If a show on any of the lesser networks (The CW, TNT, etc.) there would be no doubt the show would get renewed with those ratings. UGH. I guess that’s the downside to syndication. It’s a nail biter.

  • By cristen, February 28, 2010 @ 6:56 pm

I got a form reply letter from ABC Studios regarding my letter to them. I am sure that each person who sent a letter so far has received one as well. I’m going to type out the letter here so that others can see the message. If you have not sent a letter, please do so. They are being received and counted. WE CANNOT WAVER AT THIS POINT.

    —————–

Dear Legend of the Seeker Fan:

Thank you for being a dedicated viewer of our show. We appreciate your letter and are pleased to know that you greatly enjoy the show.

Mike Sussman… In case you read this, not only did I buy Princess at the iTunes library… I also bought the rest of season 2.

I really wanted to wait till it came out on DVD but figured this might help. I’ve really been hooking ABC/Disney up. I make sure I watch episodes on Netflix and hulu whenever I have a time, even if it is background noise when I’m studying or whatever.

  • By ReallyAlly, March 3, 2010 @ 12:13 pm

I think I’ll just stand outside the Tribune building with a giant “RENEW SEEKER FOR A THIRD SEASON” sign.

  • By Loretta, March 3, 2010 @ 12:37 pm

I just send letters and postcards. I send again but I think that the Tribune is crazy if not renewed Season3

  • By Alessia (Nasmadie), March 3, 2010 @ 12:54 pm

I sent my letter to ABC Studios yesterday……but I can’t send a letter to local tv since I don’t live in US and so I don’t have a local tv! Do you think there is something else I can do for “Saving the Seeker”? :(

  • By Loretta, March 3, 2010 @ 1:21 pm

Today is bad day.No profile photo to bridget twitter and Tribune will not renewed the seeker.I want to die.

  • By Lindsey, March 3, 2010 @ 1:30 pm

@Loretta There’s still hope for Legend of the Seeker! A decision might not be made till MAY so we’ve got 2 months to change Tribunes mind.

@Alessia Most of the stations on the Tribune list have either an online contact form or an e-mail address. Send them a letter saying that you want more Legend of the Seeker. They’ll never know you’re outside the US.

  • By RandyAW, March 3, 2010 @ 1:37 pm

Oh sure, I don’t visit this site for a few hours and look what happens!!
I had a wonderful day going and now I get my “WTF” moment that inevitably creeps into every day.
I’ll have to find out it the President of the Tribune has a daughter..then offer either to date her or have him renew LOTS.
Since I “look” like the kind of guy mom and dads do not want to see their little girl bringing home, I’m guessing we’d get more Seeker. :)

  • By Loretta, March 3, 2010 @ 1:53 pm

Don’t worry I hope yet. I lives outside the US( Italy) and I send mail tribune list. We save ours the seeker

  • By darkops, March 3, 2010 @ 2:14 pm

Ugh. I don’t like this Tribune news. I’m going to write some more letters. But… ugh.

  • By Alessia (Nasmadie), March 3, 2010 @ 2:14 pm

great!thanks U so much! and, Lindsey; I have a (imo) GREAT idea!!!!!!!
What if EACH fan from America will make his/her friends send letters or will use his/her friends address(with permission, that’s obvious) for saving the seeker??????so they’ll receive more letters!!!

  • By Joy, March 3, 2010 @ 2:23 pm

Is there any way to email in?? Im from the UK, so i cant write! It HAS to be renewed!!!

  • By Lindsey, March 3, 2010 @ 2:58 pm

@Alessia Technically, you don’t have to put a return address on any letter you send.

@Joy I’ve not been able to find an e-mail address for Tribune Broadcasting but I’d e-mail WGN as they’re the main station. programming@wgntv.com

  • By Alessia (Nasmadie), March 3, 2010 @ 3:03 pm

oh,lol!ok…maybe the idea wasn’t so “great” then! what a figure! *embarassed*

  • By kevh55, March 3, 2010 @ 3:09 pm

this is not great news,im not from the us and cant even find lots on itunes to download it.its the best show on tv and i cant believe their thinking of not renewing it for season3

  • By Lindsey, March 3, 2010 @ 3:19 pm

@Alessia Don’t worry about it, you’re not in the USA so you have no way of knowing how our postal system works. :)

  • By Loretta, March 3, 2010 @ 3:44 pm

  • By darkops, March 3, 2010 @ 3:53 pm

P.S. Have I said you and Chris do a TOP notch job here? Well you dO!!! Excellent job at getting this important topic at the forefront.
HOPE HAS A HERO…it is Lindsey and Chris too ;-)

P.S.S…Is it worth contacting the news department and see if they will do a story on the fan push for season 3?? … Sparty???

  • By Flip, March 3, 2010 @ 4:20 pm

@Lindsey ..Hey..how about that news reporter in San Diego that went to the LOTS set in NZ to head up a story? He loves Bridget!! I will call him. But I would refer him to this site if it is alright Lindsey and he would probably contact you.

Please more, more and even more

  • By Darren Albert, March 3, 2010 @ 9:21 pm

One word: travesty. No, two words: travesty and hope. Ok, that’s three words, but you get the meaning. Great work you guys for championing saving the show. Let’s hope by May it all works!

  • By Russell, March 3, 2010 @ 11:06 pm

Maybe LotS can get some corporate sponsors to help with funding for another season. Companies like Apple computers might target the same audience as LotS.

Apparently, the economy will get worse before it gets better, but we need fun fantasy shows like LotS to help get through the hard times! I hope the network does whatever it takes to get funding. I’ll definitely miss this show.

Tribune filed for Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code on 12/8 2008. Season 2 was renewed while IN chapter 11. The bankruptcy code allows for normal operation while a over-leveraged firm like Tribune works out it finanical problems. I am not sure but it looks like they have not exited chapter 11. It was a firm that over-levered to go private.

At any rate chapter 11 is a financial restructuring, not a firm being dissolved (chapter 7). No reason they can not renew LOTS unless they feel the returns are not strong enough and they are having problems getting the upfront cash to pay….which COULD be.

There seems to be a number of people canned there and new management. Creditors are running the show now. I have been on one of these committees before, it is where all the power lies now.

  • By Flip, March 4, 2010 @ 8:05 am

    @Lindsey..
OK I will try and contact them today.

  • By Flip, March 4, 2010 @ 8:16 am

Sam Zell is the man with the ultimate power over Tribune…. An incredible investor I have followed him for years. He owned it and sold it to these guys that ran Tribune into the ground.
“” Sam Zell remains Tribune’s Chairman and will continue to provide the management team with strategic oversight and vision”"

Sam Zell is not be a bad guy to write….it always it better to get a letter like this sent from the TOP down. His sectratary will forward it, but the media director WILL read it if it is from Sam Zell’s office…believe me. Sam Zell is god.

@deanna Media Relations usually referrs to the press office. Writting to them won’t do any good as they have no power over LotS.

  • By deanna, March 4, 2010 @ 9:51 am

Thanks Lindsey. Does anyone know a tribune e-mail address that those of us outside the USA can use? I will still try letters/cards but I am wondering if they’ll take note if it is posted outside of the USA.

  • By deanna, March 4, 2010 @ 9:55 am

Linsey, sorry cancel that have just found the e-mail address for WGN that you posted earlier.

  • By Lindsey, March 4, 2010 @ 10:04 am

Hey guys, in the list I posted yesterday for Tribune I TOTALLY spaced on the fact that WGN and WGN America are two different stations and have two different sites and e-mail addresses. *sigh* Totally my fault and I’m REALLY sorry. I’ve gone back in and added the WGN America address to the top or you can e-mail them directly at: WGNAmerica@tribune.com

  • By Lindsey, March 4, 2010 @ 10:06 am

@Flip Zell is also a perfectly good target for our letters, I’ll add him into the post.

  • By Dennis, March 4, 2010 @ 11:53 am

I’ve been writing, and I just snail-mailed another 3 this morning.

I don’t think the idea of sending fruit is all that great however. They are likely to think us fans to be fruits too. IMO.

A hand written letter ALWAYS gets more attention that a typed or emailed one however. TAKE 5 MINUTES and hand write a letter if it may possibly give us another season.

Comeon peeps, you blow 5 minutes checking email at work this afternoon… just quickly pen a short note to Sam Zell or Ed Wilson of Tribune.

Well, while the persimmon idea is a fun one, it would definitely not be appreciated and would probably not work in your favor.
The save Farscape campaign did something similar with sending boxes of crackers through the mail. (An episode was titled Crackers Don’t Matter and the point was that they DO matter) Although funny, Sci-fi did not appreciate it at all!

So it might hurt rather than help the cause.

  • By Loretta, March 4, 2010 @ 3:24 pm

We SEND MORE EMAIL AND LETTERS. We Can change mind of tribune!

  • By Alessia (Nasmadie), March 4, 2010 @ 4:07 pm

I do agree with jean…the Persimmons idea seem to me a little….eh…impolite… :(

  • By Russell, March 4, 2010 @ 4:28 pm

@Alessia Thanks for the link. Makes me wanna grab this dweeb by the collar, tell him I don’t give a damn about his statistics, remind him he’s a bankrupt loser, and tell him to renew the show or we’ll cancel our cable. Then I’ll tell these Chicago buffoons where to stuff their persimmons! (Just kidding, I think the “Dale Carnegie” approach is probably more effective, so I’ll be nice. Just had to vent a little. : )

  • By Daniel Jay, March 4, 2010 @ 4:44 pm

    @Allessia

You do not have to respond. :)

  • By Alessia (Nasmadie), March 4, 2010 @ 5:09 pm

I have the same problem of Alessia. How can we do?

  • By Alessia (Nasmadie), March 4, 2010 @ 5:22 pm

Another girl (from twitter) has the same problem…. we answered (I’m from Italy while she’s from Portugal)… I’m curious to see why they’re asking us where are we writing from! I don’t want they thing my mail is a fake or a trick! Even if we’re not from America, we can watch season 1 on dvd (playing it on our pc since the dvd player can’t read it!)
and…aboit iTunes…I have a question: can the site, using you ID, understand if you’re from Usa or not? and, anyway…youtibe is LEGAl,isn’t it? (I’m just preparing myself for other questions from them)

  • By darkops, March 4, 2010 @ 5:40 pm

    @Allesia

The person who asked where you were from is named George, yes? That is the Chicago station, I think. He asks EVERYONE where they are writing from. Personally, I think it is b/c he has no interest in anyone but local viewers. That is only my opinion, but I did not respond as I do not live in that area.

  • By Jan, March 4, 2010 @ 9:16 pm

I live in the UK and I am definately going to write to all addresses listed on this page. There is so much rubbish on our TV’s lately that I can’t understand how such a high quality program like this can be cancelled.

  • By flip, March 4, 2010 @ 9:42 pm

@Jan networks are always looking for the next big sitcom…same set..same actors…low budget…big profit.

Unless action shows get a huge, huge following i wonder whether they just don’t want to take the risks.

Hopefully they go the way of a movie series..at least..Raimi’s have that game figured out anyway.

I guess we know why Tribune is in chapter 11 bankrutcy.

  • By flip, March 4, 2010 @ 10:09 pm

I actually rarely watch tv but was hooked on LOTS because of Hulu…..

As another fan said…typical all the shows I like get canceled. TV just continues to dumb itself down. If networks never take any risks then they will continue the downward flush in quality they have taken and the viewers become lower and lower grade. The rest of us going to books and computers for our nightly activities.

Networks are building its own demise, IMHO.

  • By Matthew, March 4, 2010 @ 10:26 pm

Tribune officially said they aren’t picking LotS up for a third season :( is this the end?

  • By Sparty, March 5, 2010 @ 12:16 am

Like Lindsey said, don’t lose hope yet. Just because Tribune stations don’t want to renew it doesn’t mean that another station or network might not pick it up. Look at the tv show JAG, it originally aired on NBC but was cancelled after the 1st season because of low ratings only to be picked up by CBS and run for another 9 seasons. That’s pretty good for a show that was originally cancelled.

  • By Daniel Jay, March 5, 2010 @ 5:21 am

I think what we are seeing is a continual degrading of television ratings. More and more people are turning to the internet to view media from sites such as hulu.com and netflix.com. Also, I know a lot of people that prefer to wait until a show is released on DVD so that they can enjoy the entire show at one time. My hope is that Disney/ABC understands this and will continue to produce Legends of the Seeker.

Also, as some have mentioned already. If the show had a better time slot they would have better ratings. Let’s be honest, this show is not geared towards the 40-60 crowd. It’s geared to the 15-35 crowd… most of which are trying to get out and live their lives on Saturdays!

I wonder how these people that run these stations get their jobs… They do not seem very bright.

I’ve mentioned it before, email hulu and netflix too!! Buy the season 1 DVD for yourself… buy a few more to give away at Christmas and Birthdays. Buy season 2 on iTunes!!!

  • By Flip, March 5, 2010 @ 10:48 am

Well now on to plan B? It sounds like it is up to the Exec. Producers for now. Tribune sounds like they made their minds up. My guess attention should be devoted to ABC/Disney now. Yes???

  • By Flip, March 5, 2010 @ 11:10 am

Just reading thru the bankrutcy filings on Tribune, they are in really bad shape. The $8.2b levered buy-out was badly timed and now creditors are suing each other.

Following this type stuff I understand why Tribune would not renew a show unless they were absolutely sure they could make money. Managers are losing their jobs right and left there (I assume) and ONE bad move is your job with a firm in this type turmoil. Management HAS to have a plan of recovery (they just went thru delays last month). If their plan is not accepted then management has no protection against what the creditors will do. One way is to set the bar very high on shows they know make money.

Sorry, this is more than most of you probably care to read I am sure, but I think Tribune does not have a lot of choice at this time on a show they can not be guaranteed to make money. (damn).

I think we need to focus on ABC/Disney…

  • By RandyAW, March 5, 2010 @ 3:34 pm

What I find a bit astounding in all this is that LOTS pulls in what a lot of network primetime shows do these days. So Tribune feeling not enough people watch seems a very thin excuse.
Then again not many Exec’s are accused of being overly bright.

  • By Tara, March 5, 2010 @ 3:56 pm

I absolutly love Legend of the Seeker I love the hole cast, if they take this series off the air it will be very dissapointing and I will be po’d. When you have something that is that good don’t destroy it, run with it, leave well enough alone. I hope that stations all across the world read all the positive responses for this show and renew for a 3rd season.

  • By PokaPlaya, March 5, 2010 @ 4:10 pm

Mike Sussman tweeted: “Everyone, please, chillax. #LegendoftheSeeker has *not* been cancelled. Plans are ongoing for season three. Spread the word.”

  • By Flip, March 5, 2010 @ 10:10 pm

hmmm…not sure what those folks at LOTS have up their sleeve. Losing, bascially, all your distribution site ain’t exactly comforting…

Legend of the Seeker is an ABC Studios production distributed by ABC Domestic television but seemingly airing primarily (and perhaps exclusively) on Tribune-owned stations with the WGN America superstation having the widest coverage.

  • By Flip, March 5, 2010 @ 10:31 pm

So we are left with Judge Judy, Wheel of Fortune and Two and 1/2 men?

    uhhhh…no thank you.

  • By Flip, March 5, 2010 @ 10:49 pm

And expect a lot of reruns from Tribune..cut new shows and play high profit margin reruns.

IMHO, this is more about Tribune’s absolute mess than LOTS itself.

Can not wait for more Mayberry RFD, Three’s Company and Infomercials from Tribune networks..NOT

  • By Flip, March 5, 2010 @ 10:56 pm

From the Editor of TVbythenumbers whom talked to Gary at Tribune:

I encourage you folks to PLEASE STOP E-MAILING Gary. He’s a really, really nice guy, and even 200,000 e-mails aren’t going to change Tribune’s mind.”"

  • By Daniel Jay, March 6, 2010 @ 6:27 am

Just sent this email to MTV Splash Page:

    “Hi,

Any chance you would be willing to write an article about actress Bridget Regan? She would be perfect for Wonder Woman!! Also, mentioning her name on your site may help her current show, Legend of the Seeker, be renewed for a third season. And while this show is not exactly comic book related, it does share a lot of the characteristics of what makes comic related media entertaining. Also, there is already a petition out there for her to be Wonder Woman… I think you could make it happen….

The other side to this is that Legend of the Seeker has a HUGE fanbase. If you write this article, you’ll get that much more traffic to your site.

Just a thought… Thanks for taking time to review my email and request.

    Best regards,

    Daniel Jay”

I wrote to the San Diego: KSWB-5
    FOX 5 Studios and i get this…

Thank you for your submission to Fox5sandiego.com. We will continue to air episodes from “Legend of the Seeker” until October of this year. At the time we will review our contract to see if we can run the third season. We are glad you enjoy the show and we appreciate hearing your opinion. Fox 5 takes all comments and suggestions from our viewers seriously and we are constantly working to make our television station your station for news and entertainment. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

Hmm I think that was not good but also not bad…

hey. idk if any of you watch mike sussman’s(he’s a writer for the show) twitter but he tweeted that there IS GOING TO BE a 3rd season even though tribune isnt on board. you can see it here: http://twitter.com/writtenbymikes

  • By darkops, March 6, 2010 @ 9:33 pm

    @elisha

I’m sorry, but that is not what Mr. Sussman said. He indicated that they are going to proceed AS IF there is going to be a third season until a decision has been made.

  • By elisha, March 7, 2010 @ 1:22 am

@darkops didnt he specifically say it’s not cancelled??

  • By JC, March 7, 2010 @ 2:55 am

O boy ! I would think they are nuts if they do not continue this. Just watching this young lady smile brightens my days. We want to see her again and again. They should know by now she is going to be big because she is just so wonderful. WOW ! I mean it took one hour and im hooked. Pass it along guys…this stuff is rare. You get to see a movie every week. I cant wait to see her smile again and again. The love story and the chemistry really grabs. I think it will not be canceled.

  • By Dman, March 7, 2010 @ 3:35 am

God she beautiful ! Enough said..we are confessed ….

  • By Alex, March 7, 2010 @ 4:13 am

I started to watch the show last week. I missed the first and and the first half of the Second season. I made up to the last episode 13. I’m hooked and I can’t get enough of it. My favorite Character is Cara played by Tabrett Bethell.I want to see three or four more seasons. Thank you and I’m a very loyal fan of the show.

  • By darkops, March 7, 2010 @ 6:15 am

    @elisha

Someone else please correct me if I am wrong. While it is true that the show has not officially been cancelled, it also has not been officially renewed. There was a wave of concern and panic regarding the news that Tribune decided to no longer broadcast Seeker past the current season. This concern is understandable, as Tribune is Seeker’s largest distributor. In his tweet mentioning “ongoing plans for season three”, Mike Sussman was simply asking everyone to calm down and to keep our chins up until an official announcement has been made.

At this point, there might be a third season and there might not. The Tribune news was NOT good. We are all impatiently waiting for the final outcome.

  • By deanna, March 7, 2010 @ 12:16 pm

There is plenty of time yet as Kurt from the seeker cast says, May is generally the time shows are officially renewed and if the Tribune decision had been the end for the show, as we were initially led to believe, then surely a cancellation announcement would have followed more or less straight away. LotS is shown around the world and is very popular,no doubt there is a far amount of number crunching and negotiations going on behind the scenes before final decisions are made. There is always a chance that other stations will pick up the show. It is shown on the European SciFi channels and has good ratings, and both the US and European SciFi channels are run by NBC, so that might be the perfect home for it – who knows. As others have said Tribune are in deep financial difficulties, and the economic situation worldwide is pretty stagnant at present, so Tribune may not even be around in its present incarnation by the end of this year.

  • By Lindsey, March 7, 2010 @ 12:34 pm

@Deanna NBC & Syfy are owned by General Electric (GE) and they’ve been trying to unload NBC for about a year.

Again, to the best if my knowledge, Disney isn’t shopping the show around. So the show is kinda in limbo at the moment.

  • By Flip, March 7, 2010 @ 6:46 pm

From the homework I have done I think LOTS is as much caught in a finanical hailstorm in the industry as much as the ratings issue. The lack of ratings may make it not a clear cut decision in this environment, but the industry as a whole is not in good shape.

It all spells to the networks turning to reruns and sure bets on shows well established. Little risk taking on extablishing a solid foundation of viewers of new shows it seems…I hope I get proven wrong and they are able to shop it to new networks.

    Sparty what do you think??

  • By Flip, March 7, 2010 @ 9:00 pm

This chart and this message board (over 1/2 foreign posters)shows the value of a foreign market. Producers of LOTS I think understood that. Titanic, the huge grossing movie grossed TWICE in non-US markets.

LOTS might have to take tine off…to get distribution set, but this show clearly is a big winner in foreign markets. And I think US ratings are only a part of what ABC looks at (or should look at). At $25m to produce a whole season should make them money. But the expected returns in the media business are just silly. They produce so much crap, decent shows have to make up the other stuff.

    Sorry..just more rambling…

  • By Daniel Jay, March 7, 2010 @ 9:19 pm

Flip, you make a good point regarding Titanic. The international market can be very lucrative. Legend of the Seeker appeases so many people on so many levels it would be astounding to me if the show was not picked up for a third season.

Keep writing letters and emails to whomever you can think of everyone… I’ve written to ain’t it cool news asking them to write an article on Legend of the Seeker, I’ve written to syfy.com asking them to purchase LOTS.. Pretty much, I’m writing to anyone I can think of that may help.

  • By Seventh, March 7, 2010 @ 9:25 pm

Flip – $25 million is a bit off. S1 averaged $1.5 million per episode.

S2 with its complex story arcs and numerous guest starts/fight scenes costs considerably more.

  • By Seventh, March 7, 2010 @ 9:26 pm

    Starts? -sigh- stars, obviously.

  • By Russell, March 7, 2010 @ 9:29 pm

@Flip Thanks for the enlightening research! Sounds like Tribune is a basket case–sign of the times. I wish there were some financing mechanism for LotS so it could be made and distributed online only. Bloated and incompetent superstations and cable networks make less sense now that broadband is nearly ubiquitous.

  • By Derek Baggett, March 7, 2010 @ 10:38 pm

Yay! According to MichaelHurstNow on Twitter, Legend of the the Seeker has not been canceled and will go on for a 3rd Season. As requested I am spreading the word! Thank the Spirits!

  • By Transic, March 8, 2010 @ 1:03 am

People, there are plenty of options out there if we can think clearly. If Tribune doesn’t want LoTS anymore, then fine! Let’s get the people at MyNetworkTV on this. Failing that, there are options from ION to even Lifetime. Heck, I’ll start watching WE if they would air LoTS. Come on, why not get E! to air the show?!

  • By RandyAW, March 8, 2010 @ 8:24 am

See @Lindsey, theres another of those hallucinations I have…maybe if I blink several times it will go away.

  • By Flip, March 8, 2010 @ 8:33 am

@chuckexperiment Interesting ideas. I understand why the producers went the route of roughly following the books. It fit the weekly series format better. But you have a point that many who read the series came out strongly against the show. Rating in Season 1 were 40-50% larger than season 2 early on. Early on the show ran in the top 25 too. But I could see from other message boards many fans of the books were upset at the changes.

If this series was a movie they could have followed the books. But it was not. But you are right, the reaction in some cases was strong against the show.

  • By RandyAW, March 8, 2010 @ 8:43 am

Its not that it was just “strong” but I have just seen that the same people incessantly go on and on about how they hate the show and the people who like show are “——” fill in the blanks as you will.
Chuck also was on Network Primetime TV which generally has a higher viewership then say…oh I don’t know …a syndicated show that drops all over the schedule? Chuck also was advertised, which to date I have yet to see one LOTS ad…anywhere.
I fought for Chuck too but seriously, thats apples and oranges here.
SO be a book fanboy but don’t try to sell it to people who do enjoy the show.

  • By Flip, March 8, 2010 @ 8:52 am

So the answer..IMHO…is to slowly build a new fan base..away from the book series. I think that is happening. They started without any big name actor and upset a lot of fans of the series. But I disagree that the fans are not passionate. Fans of this type show know there is really nothing else out there like it. But unlike 70 year old Wheel of Fortune fans, we watch on Hulu, Netflix, youtube, etc…or record it. Especially in this age group (18-40).

My guess they will have to rebudget the show to get it remarketed. In other words cut the costs a lot until the ratings come back. No way cable can afford this type program I would think.

  • By Flip, March 8, 2010 @ 8:58 am

I think Robert from TV-By The Numbers.com also makes the point, it will have to be rebudgeted to be remarketed…makes logical sense.

    “”Robert Seidman says:
    March 7, 2010 at 8:38 pm

Mike Sussman must stump for his show, and it certainly hasn’t been canceled in the sense that season two isn’t being yanked off the air. But season 3 is definitely up in the air.

When you lose the Chicago, New York and Los Angeles markets (the top 3 markets in the country) along with several other markets and a cable super station it’s a big loss. Can ABC find replacements for the Tribune stations? There’s no doubt it could. Where the doubt creeps in is whether it can find replacement stations where the economics still make sense. We’ll see.”"

I actually more a TV Show fan, the books were great but, i really like the TV show, but you can’t act like the fact this tV show is loosly based on the books may turn off the die hard fans of those books…

I love the show and wanyt to see at at least 4 more seasons so they complete the 11 books , but the fact is that the majority of die hard book fans are not supporting the show and it doesn’t help build a very strong fan base…

  • By chuckexperiment, March 8, 2010 @ 10:59 am

@randy i admit the differences but the similarity remains that in the Case of Chuck on NBC and Jericho on CBS, those who were watching the show came out strongly against the cancelation…

In the case of LOTS there’s no fanbase active enough to save the show and maybe help Tribune reconsider… as to Mike well maybe some budget cut and he might be able to remarket the show… but i don’t see this S3 arriving next year…

They should conclude the adventure with a direct to DVD movie and we”ll all move on to the next bridget regan project ;-) Wonderwoman….

  • By chuckexperiment, March 8, 2010 @ 11:00 am

By the way the decision to make an expensive 22 episode tv series was not great, a 13 episodes TV series like many sucesfull Cable tv show would have been better: mad men, shields, damages, etc…

  • By chuckexperiment, March 8, 2010 @ 11:03 am

” But unlike 70 year old Wheel of Fortune fans, we watch on Hulu, Netflix, youtube, etc…or record it. Especially in this age group (18-40).” indeed that doesn’t help much that most people i know in the US who watch this do so on netflix, itunes, etc… they only started to watch because they heard the show is about to be cancelled!

  • By chuckexperiment, March 8, 2010 @ 11:18 am

about the previous, i was just jokin, anyway that show was a great show!

  • By deanna, March 8, 2010 @ 12:47 pm

I was talking to my son today, who is a fan of the show, and works in the computing industry and has worked for Sony.As far as marketing shows, the internet is definitely the way everything is going these days and will be in the future. More and more people will watch shows, not on TV but on their computers on sites like Netflix and Hula, or downloading them from I tunes. He’s been doing some special research into illegal downloads. He says that LotS is consistently high up on the chart lists of these sites, and not just one episode but many. Clearly there are many people out there who want to see the show but either don’t have it on their TV station or it is in a ridiculous timeslot. So there is a massive fan base out there for the show, probably more around the world than in the US itself. No idea how that helps us getting a third season of course.

  • By RandyAW, March 8, 2010 @ 12:54 pm

My humblest apologies then, it came across more like a book fans post usually reads.
One thing with the show being as it is, it needs to be accessible to people. I think if it had followed the book too closely it wouldn’t have any larger a fan base…one of those miss an ep or two and you are lost kind of thing.
That was the down side to Babylon 5, miss a bit and you’d get a migraine figuring out whats what.
Sadly anyone who thought they would follow the books more closely was really deluding themselves. I had come in late to the show, never knew there were books and once I did know, I never thought what I was watching was what was exactly in the book. Judging by the temper tantrums I was right in my assumptions. :)

  • By chuckexperiment, March 8, 2010 @ 1:07 pm

@Deena yes indeed LOTS most is in the TOP 50 of the most downloaded shows around the net illegaly. So you have a huge chunck of the fanbase who never watch it on official channel…

Yes illegal download is part of the problem and the unability of that industry to distribute its product through innovative ways is beyond comprehension… by innovative ways, i mean channel through which i will pay to get the show… i have absolutely no problem paying for quality content…

  • By chuckexperiment, March 8, 2010 @ 1:23 pm

@randy, me i actually started the book, after watchin S1 of the Show. because indeed there was this tantrum and i started all the differences, some differences that i understand are there to keep the viewers invested in the characters evolution.

Example Kahlan and Richard so called “forbiden love”, that aspect of the show is still present in the S2 based loosly on book 2 and 3 while at the end of book 1 if i remember well Richard had learned to love Kahlan unconditionally, and as such, her power was invalid when turned against him and then they could love each other freely.

But i guess that to keep hopeless romantics invested in the developpment of this relationship they did not include that element of the books story. I agree with that choice actually, it makes sense specially because those kind of relationship are difficult to manage on tv shows, most of them break them up or let it @the level of sexual tension…

I agree with it even though because of that Kahlan charcater (not Bridget) get on my nerves specially when she’s fishin emotions like “after the quest you can come back to your village and start again with your ex” come on Kahlan, all you are tryin to do here is to get Richard to say that he loves you… LOL

But i guess for many readers of the book, they can stand it, on many other things i don’t understand the choice… the dreamcaster came out too early, the nicci story hmmm not so much, deena come on, deena as well

But all in all i just love the show the way it is maybe because i discovered the books after, i see them as different products.

  • By deanna, March 8, 2010 @ 1:27 pm

I’m lucky it is shown in a good timeslot in the UK, but I’m still frustrated that I can’t buy it on I Tunes here. Nor can I buy the CD of the music. Unfortunately companies don’t seem to grasp that we don’t want to wait months to see shows. New ways of distribution do need to be found.

  • By chuckexperiment, March 8, 2010 @ 1:45 pm

@Randy i also agree on the accessible point of view

  • By Flip, March 8, 2010 @ 3:55 pm

Of course what REALLY counts is getting more to watch the show and ratings up. It would seem also important to remind folks to record the show if they do not usually do that..(I do). I have never watched LOTS in normal time slot.

Do we need a RECORD the SHOW campaign?? Maybe I need to ask Mike the question?

  • By chuckexperiment, March 8, 2010 @ 5:56 pm

we need a “by any means necessary” save LOTS campaign ;-)

  • By chuckexperiment, March 8, 2010 @ 5:59 pm

    i have a question:
I absolutely love @Bridgetregan in #legendoftheseeker great job @ bringing K to life, but why does everybody love Kahlan?

#LOTS Ok i see why i sometimes hate Kahlan, she reminds of the time when i was hopelessly romantic, being a cynic now, CARA is my favourite

  • By RandyAW, March 8, 2010 @ 6:59 pm

Thats quite a good question. For me, I would say I love Kahlan, she is not only strong and independent, she has that soft side, the kind where you could just be sitting talking with her and start a good old fashioned tickle fight and she wouldn’t knock the snot out of you or remove anything important (As far as being a man goes).
There is that voice of hers (which is more a Bridget thing), seriously a sweet sounding voice. She could talk gibberish and it would sound nice. (Okay as brown nosing as that sounds, remember she doesn’t read these so… neener neener neener)
So it may just all boil down to Bridgets portrayal of Kahlan that catches so much of our (or some of ours) attention. As an actress she has brought a lot of life to Kahlan in such a way as she doesn’t seem to be acting and, she is certainly now an actress high on my list of favorites.

  • By lisi, March 8, 2010 @ 7:12 pm

oh i so want the show to return for a third season!!! i’ve been a fan since the first episode aired and i just love all of the characters. love the books two.
i’m from germany so i don’t really know whether it makes a difference when i’m writing a letter to disney or abc but i just had to try it :)
it would be a sinister crime if this graet series ended after just two seasons!!!

  • By darkops, March 8, 2010 @ 7:47 pm

TheTorchOnline.com has some comments about Seeker and the third season nailbiter.

Nothing new is said. Still waiting and hoping.

    YES!!

    http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b170768_hell_yes_legend_of_seeker_aint_dead.html

I think that it would be a good idea to buy a copy of the season 1 DVD and give it to someone randomly.

  • By Flip, March 8, 2010 @ 8:21 pm

Of course the media business is probably one of the most cut-throats there is. My guess Tribune is also playing hard ball and trying to get THEIR cost way down. Rather curious how they nix season 3 after only 1/2 of season 2 is shown.

Has this type thing happened? They come out and say “fans’ wanted it back so badly we renewed the show?

As has been mentioned the ratings were not THAT bad. So of course if they gave LOTS season 3 for FREE Tribune would jump all over that. It clearly is about the cost Tribune is paying for LOTS…can LOTS cut productions costs enough to get renewed? most shows have far less than 2m viewers thru out the TV hours, I would take that bet. But most shows do not cost $1.5m to make.

    As I mentioned to deej….

maybe they could spin-off The Kahlan Show. Just Bridget kicking booty and looking hot in the midlands. It would be more than enough plot for me.

  • By RandyAW, March 8, 2010 @ 8:27 pm

I second the Kahlan show, though throwing Cara in as her sidekick wouldn’t exactly hurt either.

  • By Derek Baggett, March 8, 2010 @ 10:37 pm

Anyone else have a slight pain in their chest beside me?

  • By chuckexperiment, March 9, 2010 @ 1:10 am

i hope my comment did not come as an attack on bridget who is one of just great in that role, she does a close to perfection job in briging the character to life, but the resulting character gets on my nerves all the time.

The strong and independant and goal oriented confessor who have gone through the plan of continue the line of confessor when a confessed richard was ordered by this young confessor mistress to go with Kahlan and help the line of confessor to have a new born… but then she does not, because of feelings… But she would have given a big lecture to anyone involved in a plan like this if it wasn’t her as the confessor, she woud hace coldly stressed how important it is to continue the line of the confessors… But now that it is her she has sentimental and emotional issues that she can’t get over with??? that is when she started getting on my nerves!

CW for a wider audience, but they’re right friday nites is a show killer for LOTS ratings, just look at dollhouse and sarah connor.
