Having just seen PERDITION, the rating is “A”. Season Two continues on a roll.

    *** Spoiler Alert******Spoiler Alert*****

In this episode, Cara and Leo have a romantic encounter, but Cara later tells Leo that she has no feelings for him. Sounds like Cara. But Kahlan advises Cara not to hide her feelings but to tell Leo how she really feels.

As predicted by various posters, Leo dies in this episode, nobly defending Kahlan. At the funeral, Cara tells Leo’s corpse that she has feelings for him. Better late than never.

It’s good to see Richard back as the Seeker. And Kahlan once again takes on the Prelate in the Palace of the Prophets so that she can rescue Richard. In that confrontation, Verna revealed that she is one of the good guys, as she sides with Kahlan. Verna is all right.

The final showdown between Sister Nicci and the Sisters of the Dark and Kahlan, Cara, Zedd and Leo is exciting.

This is a solid episode. Cara is learning to show her tender feelings, and Kahlan is giving Cara relationship advice (!!!) Somebody has to.

In a way, this episode is reminiscent of HOME, where Richard was trapped in a fantasy world. In that fantasy world, it’s revealed what Richard fears – losing Kahlan, and failing to defeat the Keeper. No surprises there.

This episode had some gratifying romance – a kiss between Richard and Kahlan, and Cara connecting with Leo. Which leaves Zedd out in the cold, dreaming of Shota.

I enjoyed it too, even though this episode felt as if I were watching it on fast forward. I’m okay with that since it means I wasn’t bored.

Verna is a fantastic addition. Between the Sisters of the Light, and the fallen Sisters of the Dark, she’s one who acts on her own best judgement. She trusts the Seeker and Confessor’s good intentions over either the Keeper or the Prelate (supposedly acting in the name of the Creator). There was some clear religious subtext in this episode in her questioning of the Prelate. Probably a result of borrowing more directly from Goodkind. I love TV with hidden depth.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I really liked Leo, even for himself rather than a plot device to strengthen Cara’s character. I’m glad he died nobly and Cara’s tribute to him was touching.

It was also great our first taste of Richard’s real power. It should make for quite a spectacular showdown against the Keeper for the season finale when Richard has his han back. I’m sure Nicci will show up again in some form or another, since Zedd scorched her body. I have to give Jolene Blalock props as well. I don’t love her as Nicci, but I admire a woman who just smiles devilishly while a spider crawls toward her face.

Amazing visuals once again. I love the ambiance at the Palace. And forgive me, I’m completely pro-Richard, but Kahlan’s imaginary family was almost too beautiful for TV. I was a bit jealous. Great epic fight scene as well, everyone was contributing and I’m always happy when Zedd steps up the badass wizard’s fire.

And the desperate kiss at the end…they’re spoiling me. I want more please.

I agree with Charlie that this season is consistently improving: darker tones, more fluid storytelling, and more in tune with the books. It’s making it somewhat easier to pick out plotholes, which is my main complaint. However, given the amount of material they’re covering in such a short amount of time, they’re not even doing too badly on that score.

NICE. I loved Cara making out with Leo!!! And I was crying when Leo died… :*( He should be together with Cara!

It broke my heart when I saw Kahlan having a child with another guy. So happy that that wasn’t real!!!

And the Richard and Kahlan kiss… sooo romantic. I like that. Gimme moarrrrr!!! :D

I’m worried about Cara. Why is she in this place and why is she talking to this person?

    * WARNING * SPOILER*

In regards to the spoiler link posted by darkops, I believe that this picture is showing that Cara is the one who gets killed and comes back as a baneling. I read that one of the main characters was going to die and come back as a baneling. When Richards is stuck in Perdition and his worst fears are coming to life and Cara lies to him and then kills Kahlan and her husband maybe by seeing that it is somewhat a vision of what will happen.

I thought that this episode was absolutely wonderful. It was fast-paced, well thoughtout, and kick-ass. I almost always love the fight sequences. There is nothing better than a woman kicking ass and taken names. LOL!

I love seeing Richard and Kahlan together. The chemistry between them is electric. They are so good together. I feel bad for Cara and I was sorry to see Leo get killed. He died protecting and saving Kahlan.

I think that season 2 just keeps getting better and better and I can hardly wait until the next week to see what they have come up with next. I can’t wait to see Torn.

  • By Erica, January 30, 2010 @ 11:44 pm

Wow what an episode. They are really raising the bar on this show!

    Just a few random thoughts:

Seeing Cara deal with Leo’s death just about broke my heart. Kinda like when I see “tough men” cry – it makes me bawl like a baby. Tabrett has far more depth than I had suspected way back when we first saw her in season 1. We have slowly been seeing that this season, but she really kicked it up a notch in this ep.

Of course I didn’t like Kahlan with another family but seeing her grieve over her little girl was heart-wrenching. A+ as always for Bridget. And Craig held his own as well – that whole conversation between them at the palace was a perfect mix of emotions: joy, regret, shock, desperation, all played subtly, but to great effect. And of course, I loved the kiss. I’m just a sucker for the romance.

Loved how Cara and Sister Verna “circled the wagons” around Kahlan when Nicci and Co. were coming after her. Girl power!

Sad to see Leo go. Of course we could see it coming from a mile away, but still sad. I really kinda liked him.

Props to the costume people. The sisters rocked the red dresses, with all that background sand and billowy wind and all.

My main complaint with the show has always been a lack of continuity, what with all the magic and prophesies and “rules” changing, but the writers have stepped it up so much that I don’t even mind so much anymore. And besides, the show is pretty. I am distracted by shiny, pretty things.

  • By Mathew, January 31, 2010 @ 12:07 am

I have got to say…Kahlan saying that other man was her husband was so messed up (even though it was fake). Richard and Kahlan have to kiss each episode now. It is mandated. and more hugs.

The pace was Very fast though! But I think it’s a new standard for the show. There’s just too much to fill in. Not to mention how that night Cara and Leo shared seemed rushed until I find out that it’s been weeks since they’ve first met. Oh and Bridget looks great as always!

Did anyone think her charcoaled “eyes” get reduced (I don’t know what the “eye flap” is called)? I’m glad as hell.

  • By fuat atalayer, January 31, 2010 @ 1:24 am

    what an episode.

i have hit by a train when Kahlan said she had daughter and husband.

i have to say that with her white dress and less make up she is far more beautiful, always takes my breath away ( that is what i feel :) )

i was thinking that Cara would save the Kahlan from Nikki’s strike.(direct the strike to Nikki back) Leo would be a fine with this gang. well that though kinda romantic. so writers have better and realistic solution.

i cannot finish without saying afew words about Bridget; she is (and i thing will be always) great. i can see and feel every emotion on her face as if it is real.

And a note i was nearly crying at the last part.

  • By Andrew, January 31, 2010 @ 2:54 am

Leo Dane, we hardly knew ye.

Another great episode, my favorite since the last one.

Richard’s visions were pretty disturbing. Cara as a baneling, armies of undead, Richard being the last one alive with nobody left to kill him.

Bridget’s acting was amazing (as always) during the scene with Kahlan’s dead “family.” Pretty shocking to see her smack Richard’s hand away.

The fight scene at the end was great. Cara with that Matrix move with the dacra was cool. And I especially loved the scene where Richard picked up the sword and shook the sand from the grip, reclaiming his role as Seeker.

Sister Verna’s got some moves! Pulling the dacra out of Zedd’s back and throwing it at the Prelate was smooth and well executed.

A little bit of comedy was thrown in with the talk about birds. Zedd and Cara got the laughs for the ep.

And I wonder how badly Richard’s ankle was cut by Kahlan’s dagger, if at all. It didn’t look like he had any kind of boot sheath, it was just kinda flopping around in there. Maybe I was the only one to notice that.

  • By Busse, January 31, 2010 @ 5:19 am

Great one … a lot of nice action , great visuals …. they are getting better as the season goes on.

Quick question , might someone coudl find the answer ….

Is the HAN now restored with Richard , as he needs to have his magic ;)
    The kind of story reminded me at the Season 1×12 … tricked Richard seeks the Truth ;

oh by the way … that valley has some other stories in the books … which is a nice logical explanation on the events to come …

BUT I love to see the TV as it combines know thing ( names, people ) with totally other stories ;) thanks

PS: Is it just me or did Bridget do something with her lips ? They look so different ( even with different Lipstick) like in Season 1 so I was wondering if modern “medizin” is a good explanation of that outcome … or maybe just an accident ( Beating Practise with Cara ?! )

  • By Yasir, January 31, 2010 @ 7:40 am

I don’t think Richard has got his han back otherwise he would get the headaches again. I bet he will get his wizard’s powers back at some point in the season before the final confrontation with Darken Rahl/keeper.

Richard can still use the sword’s magic though and this makes me wonder about the new “true” seeker. The sword of truth never glowed for the new seeker and neither did it save him from the lightning bolt. I think the sword was still bonded to Richard and he was the only one that can use it’s magic.

The valley of perdition while not quite the same as in the books was done in an interesting way. It was nice to see Richard pulling out of it without help because of the fact that he knows Kahlan so well. The only gripe I have is with Kahlan’s new family. This was supposed to be Richard’s worst fears and thinking from his perspective, he would know that if he was gone too long Kahlan would be forced to take a mate in order to continue the line of confessors. I can buy that but to have her completely forget about Richard and start a new family and then to totally ignore him at the end was a little harsh, even for a hallucination.

Overall the episode was another good one and while not one of my favorites it was great to have R/K back together at the end with another little makeout session (seems it will be there for every episode now, not that I am complaining).

Bridget Reagan just tweeted about Perdition:

BridgetRegan Matt was a peach. We kept teasing him that he was the missing member of the Village People: Leatherman

    Reply Retweet
BridgetRegan Shucks guys. Thank you for all your sweet words. Perdition was pretty damn epic. Lots of black sand, Beez back in the directors seat and..

Her comment about Leo looking like one of the Village People is funny.

  • By Truth, January 31, 2010 @ 10:30 am

The seen when they fighting the banelings kinda reminded me of cursed with the magic and everything and how good does jolene play nicci? Cara and leo was so sad i was kind of expecting their litte make out scene as soon as leo took of his shirt and wasn’t kahlan and zedd in the same cave also how could i not mention the kiss which was expected after so long apart and when the prelate said kahlan will understand why she had locke her in the palace was probably the most funniest part b/c i imagined kahlan just killing her so i leave with this now they are three people we must see in the undrworld that we have not seen
denna and nicci and cara most of us know shes going there based on the pics oh and the scene when kahlan barely missed the dacra did it remind the First episode in season 1 and the white dress v. the black one in this episode i still can not pick
i can only imagine what the finally will look like if they are shooting episodes like this. (in a good way)

The only sad part of this episode was at the end when i saw the touched promo instead of Torn which based on the sword of truth website comes back on FEB. 13 the day before valentines day and since its shows 12:35 am midnight on my channel and considering whats happening coincidence?

I loved this episode. Mark Beesley is a fantastic director; he’s easily become my favorite. He understands the characters – who they are and what inspires them without it being overly sentimental and silly. His use of camera angles and close-ups makes them very real and brings them right into my living room. The actors must love working with him because I think they give some of their best performances for him.

Richard’s worst fears go beyond just losing Zed and Kahlan. His hallucinations gave us a sense of what his deep-down-to-the-core fears are. In the hallucination Kahlan moved on and she married a Seeker. Does he fear she’ll marry someone else one day and also, does he have doubts that she’s in love with him only because he’s the Seeker? It certainly could be interpreted that way. And when she was dying and he could have saved her but she refused his help, instead preferring to die with her daughter and husband. Does he have fears that he won’t be able to save her one day? And then Cara betrayed him in the hallucination. He obviously doesn’t completely trust her.

Bridget got to play another character – the Kahlan from Richard’s hallucination was just different from the real Kahlan. Right from when he first saw her and hugged her; we knew something was wrong but it was so subtle that it was barely there, but it was there. And it continued through to when she tried to coax him into the underworld. An excellent job by Bridget, and by Mark Beesley for capturing it so effectively.

While I thought the last two episodes (Light and Dark) were a little lacking in intensity (besides for that very intense scene in Light when Richard and Kahlan say good-bye to each other), it seems to me that the tangent Richard went off on in Light now makes sense – Sister Verna witnessed him save those people from the lizard-people and it gave her a sense of who he is and made her believe in him. She said at the end of Dark when he left the Palace that he may surprise us – and that showed that she trusted him and his judgement, maybe even more than she did the prophesies. If it hadn’t been for the lizard-people, then I personally wouldn’t have bought her going against the Prelate in this one; she would have had no basis to side with Richard.

And I thought Craig did a great job with all the emotional stuff Richard had to go through. In the hallucinations he woke up in a place that didn’t make sense to him and he knew there was something wrong yet still had to deal with everything that was happening. He had to deal with losing Kahlan, first to the new Seeker then she died because of something he did. Richard had to walk a very fine line between dealing with it and yet not really believing it was true – and I thought Craig did a great job.

  • By Purplexion, January 31, 2010 @ 9:04 pm

This episode should’ve been named Gunfight at Perdition Corral. =) There was so much power-posturing, then the big showdown at the end. I liked watching it, but it seemed to go even faster than the other episodes.

It was a noble move of Leo to give his life in true Seeker fashion, but I’m glad he’s gone. Having Cara show more emotion and everything is great, but the two of them seemed awkward and rushed even for an episodic show.

I loved the look on Kahlan’s face when Richard came to save the day. You could just see her thinking, “My hero!” =)

Overall, LOVED the show, but I hate to see em go so darn fast. I’d watch 2-hour episodes! Btw, am I the only one who thinks Sister Verna is attractive? She has beautiful eyes. Didn’t realize she was in Xena years ago. I’m also quite jealous of Craig Horner, now that he’s gettin to plant one on Bridget every episode! Grrr.

  • By John, January 31, 2010 @ 9:08 pm

@purplexion I think we are all jealous of Craig hehe!
If you want it to slow down read the books. I have been reading the books and watching the show and I love both.

must say. cried when cara put the flower on leo’s body. she has feelings, aw!

also. where were kahlan and zedd when cara jumped leo? i was under the impression that they were in the same cave-thingy. a little concerned.

  • By archer, February 1, 2010 @ 10:52 am

This show is on a non stop ride of great episodes, one after another. The word should be out in there world, that if you mess with Kahlan, Richard is going to find a way to get you. I liked the part where Richard told dead Kahlan hey, I gotta go. I hope in future episodes they don’t show Kahlan dying again, My five year old little girl loves her so much, she busted out crying. I had to stop the show to explain to her it was Richards nightmare. She enjoys the show as much as I do and I hope it’s around for a good long time. It is what it is, a great fun show. A+

  • By flip, February 1, 2010 @ 11:06 am

poor Leo….I guess he missed the lesson about the sword of truth and could have held the sword up against the Nicci’s wizard’s fire (like Richard did) instead of using his bod. Should have not fallen asleep in Zedd-class. Richard 1 Leo 0.

  • By xbabby95g, February 1, 2010 @ 4:15 pm

So quick question….if a confessor who no longer has their powers has a kid, is the kid a confessor?

  • By Yasir, February 1, 2010 @ 4:26 pm

I would say it depends on whether the power is removed or suppressed. If it is removed (which is only possible in the tv show and not the books) then I would wager that the kid would not be a confessor.

Well … there occured something were she couldnt use it ;)
    in the books.

-couldnt “touch” the confessor gift for some time ( magical Trick )

  • By Dennis, February 2, 2010 @ 8:53 am

    Oh yeah… good stuff! Perdition = A-

(Note from my ego, referencing my post from last week’s Dark Ep:
“My prediction is that this new Seeker won’t be around long although if he gave Cara some rug burns before he leaves I wouldn’t mind too much.”)

YAY to LotS producers! They roasted the goofball “Seeker” after he shagged Cara, and they roasted [the bad actress] Nicci. Now they just need that b*tch (female dog) Prelate to die.

The plot was decent, had me guessing for a bit. Cara got laid, Kahlen [fake] cheated on Richie and got knocked up (oohh soap opera!), some good majik got thrown around but wasn’t just gratuitous SFX. Nice camera work at times. Solid.

I think Cara showed too much softness for my taste over the Goofball-kabob. Personally I would have loved it if she was deadpan with some snarky sexual comment. “He’s gonna miss me where he’s going,” or “*harumph* Now I’m back to being sexually frustrated between Richard and Kahlan.” You get my point. Although when Goofball gave her the red flower, the look on her face was awesome (like, “I thought you were a man”).

Now if the Producers would just plan out the macro plot of the season with a bit of serializing then I’d be even happier.

And if you disagree with me, then you are probably a Communist spy. ;)

Sorry more off topic stuff from me, but I know I was not the only one with question on the terms used in the TV biz.

    http://www.sword-of-truth.com/tv/legend-of-the-seeker

    Syndicator: Disney-ABC Domestic Television
    Genre: Off-Network Drama
    Primary Target Audience: A18-49
    Secondary Target Audience: A18-34
    Program Length: 60 minutes
    National Coverage: 95%
    Frequency: Weekly
    Premiere Date: November 1st, 2008
    Produced in HD

    Glossary:
Syndication The sale of programs on a market-by-market basis to individual stations in over 200 TV markets.
Syndication Broadcast Network A distribution method whereby a program is licensed directly to individual stations with time alloted to sell on a national network basis.
Traditional Broadcast Network PROGRAM >>>>> NETWORKS >>>>> LOCAL STATIONS
Syndication Broadcast Network PROGRAM >>>>>>>>>> LOCAL STATIONS
Off-Network Syndication Shows which originally ran on Network TV in Prime time. Generally these are the more popular programs such as Friends, X-Files.
Coverage The percentage of US TV households that can be reached by a line up of stations carrying a program.
Clearance List The list of stations in each market that have agreed to carry a program. It also includes other program data such as time program is scheduled to air.
    F.A.Q.:
What is Syndication? Syndication is a method of delivery of programming to local television stations nationwide. Like network programming, it can be first-run. Or it can be programming that has had a previous successful run on a network or elsewhere, airing at various dates and times on stations locally.
Is Syndication smaller than network TV? Just the opposite is true. In fact, Syndication is a huge national TV programming enterprise, bigger than any TV network. Syndication has more programs (110 weekly shows), more hours, more original programming and greater reach than any single TV network.
Is Syndication competitive to network TV in reach and ratings? Yes! Syndication’s potential reach is comparable to ABC, CBS and NBC combined.
For example, Everybody Loves Raymond in Syndication gets an average 4.5 rating (adults 18-49) vs. the 4-network primetime average rating of 3.2. (Source: Nielsen 2005AA/GAA Ratings)
Syndicated programming airs on top stations, including network affiliates and independents.

  • By Flip, February 3, 2010 @ 4:21 pm

In trying to see if a season 3 is possible, the way I read the above post is LOTS can be more profitable in syndication than sold thru Netwworks (no network cut of ad revenue). The result is less of weekly coverage is needed to survive.

ABC/Disney must of been very confident to start a series like this and do it this way. It appears less likely to get cut too versus if one network executive decides to say “no”.

To write your local station is really important it appears and push for a season 3.

  • By Randyaw, February 4, 2010 @ 6:40 am

I can say this was one of my favorite episodes to date.

  • By Busse, February 4, 2010 @ 7:56 am

In Germany the first two Episode of Season 1 had something around 1.6 and 1.7 Million watcher ( for a Sunday around 5 ) that is a big figure .. so there ratings in the USA are probably just on side of the coin.

  • By darkops, February 4, 2010 @ 10:12 am

    Write ‘em:

    Disney-ABC Domestic Television
    Audience Information
    500 South Buena Vista Street
    Burbank, CA 91521-4551

The letter I’m putting in the mail right now:

    To whom it may concern,

I hope that Disney-ABC Studios will greenlight a third season for the show Legend of the Seeker. I enjoy the program very much. An intelligent and caring fan base has grown up around the show. The cast and crew of the series have connected with fans in a way that I have not witnessed with other shows. The whole production is just “GOOD”.

The writers and actors on Legend of the Seeker seem like they are really giving it their all. The performances by Bridget Regan, Craig Horner and Tabrett Bethell leave me awestruck. You have 3 extremely talented actors working on this series. Legend of the Seeker is undoubtedly the most underrated show on television right now, especially in light of the brilliant episodes that have been produced this season.

Not allowing this series to move towards a cohesive and satisfying completion would be a tragedy, in my opinion. Your consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

The above is NOT a complete list. I live in Connecticut and watch LOTS via Hartford WTXX at 5pm on Saturday.

Check THIS link http://dadt.com/lots/ (Legend of the Seeker.com) and put in your zip code for your local station.

    Cheers!!

I just saw episode 9 and 10 and they were both amazing. The new dress suits her well. I’m glad that Richard is back but sad that the new seeker died so quickly.

I stumbled upon this series while ago on Netflix. Loved it, and have been voraciously viewing season 1 and am now caught up with season 2.

Brilliant series! Love the story, love the babes (Brigette, Tarbret, Jessica, Jolene, Charisma) Love all the tight leather (hell yea!) Love the romance. Love the wizardry and sword play, and damn New Zealand must be the most beautiful place on Earth.

What I don’t like so much:

The story keeps touting that Zed is a “Wizard of the first order” but when it’s time to throw-down all he whips out is either wizards fire or a concussion spell (boring, predictable). He has done other stuff but a wizard of his supposed station should be able to wow us.

I like Richard as the Seeker, but I think he needs to toughen up. A scraggly beard alone just doesn’t cut it. It frustrates me that he’s not more bad ass. I don’t refer to him being mean… he should be the good guy, but the character is too boyish. I would imagine that having been on a mission to save the world where you get in a sword fight nearly every day – and survive to fight again – would make a seeker that should be able wow me with his utter proficiency at cutting down bad guys.

I would like to see more realism: cuts, scars, blood, guts.

P.S. I would be a major bummer if Richard lost his Han. (point in case – too boyish. “Please take my incredible power so that I can be with my sweetheart.” Come on! Cowboy-up and fight wimp!)

i think there should be Episode discussion boards for the next episode even before it airs… I mean, we see the “next on LotS” previous after each and I wanna know what the fans are thinking even before getting to the whole thing…

    More discussions!!!!

Sadly, I seem to have missed the boat on reviewing this episode (not that anyone gives a rat’s arse). Unfortunately, illness prevented me from seeing it until just yesterday, so needless to say I was jonesing for some Seeker.

Ah well. In the spirit of tradition, I’ll drop a few comments.

In many ways, Mark Beesley is the man. While this episode had its problems, they lived more in the writing than the direction. And when this episode was good, it was REALLY good — due in large part to his direction.

From a technical standpoint, the cinematography in “Perdition” was simply awesome. Some of the fights were cut a bit too quickly, but the visuals came together in a way not seen in most episodes.

The expert cinematography and the soundtrack alone warrant a second viewing. The use of familiar music and the new themes created for this episode (the final showdown comes to mind) gave me chills at times and really enhanced what we saw onscreen.

Richard’s plot was by far the most compelling, which is why I was sometimes disappointed in how much the other storylines seemed to undermine the drama and urgency of what he was going through. For example, the Cara subplot was completely misplaced in this story. Not only does slowing down to talk about Cara’s budding romance (when they think Richard may be in danger) kill the urgency, but why did it have to be Leo anyway? What I mean is: the development of Cara’s emotions would have been much more poignant if it had been based on her relationships with these people she’s traveled with for months rather than some dude we met last week. Romantic feelings aren’t the only way to show that she’s capable of caring for people.

Also, the episode started off with a few bits of extremely expositional dialogue (the “perdition” history lesson seemed unnecessarily in-depth).

And I concede — I’m looking at you, Dennis — that Blalock’s acting sunk into the realm of ridiculous in this episode. As “good” Nicci she was okay, but as EvilConstantlyArousedByEverythingNicci… just no.

I’ll admit I’m going to kind of miss Sister Verna. I liked having a mature female presence around that ultimately didn’t screw Richard over. Hopefully she returns.

Overall, this episode provided a great payoff to a series of three episodes that slowly but surely increased in quality. We’re at a high point now, so hopefully they can maintain this level of quality and continue to make the story feel like a cohesive whole.

Looks like an A- to me.
