Bridget’s Birthday!
January 17, 2010 6:27 pm

For those of you who didn’t know, Bridget’s birthday is coming up on February 3! Chris and I have come up with two ways for you all to show your love for our favorite girl. The first is, if you’d like to send Bridget a birthday message email it to me at Lindsey [at] herblueeyes.com and I’ll spiffy it all up in Photoshop and post a link to them on Bridget’s birthday. If you’d rather send something else like fan art or something along those lines I’d be happy to include it as well. All entries must be received by Saturday January 30 so that I have time to work on them.

Also, Chris and I have watched, along with the rest of the world, the devastation wrought on Haiti by the MASSIVE earthquake that rocked Port-au-Prince this week. It will take the Haitian people years to get over what has happened and we want to help. So for the next two weeks we will be taking donations via PayPal and we will donate all the funds we receive to UNICEF (Charity Navigator rating: 4 stars) in Bridget’s name. The donation account will remain open from now until Saturday January 30 and I’ll update the amount of money we’ve received so far on a daily basis. Click on the button on the left to donate. Absolutely any amount you can give will help. Please note that this is all done in US Dollars so if you’re donating internationally there’s usually a small bank fee.

Sweet, the birthday thing is a fun idea and the donating in her name is just awesome! :D

Being a finance guy I would not embarrass myself with trying to be artistic, but you both are generous with your time to make the effort on behalf of her fans.

I guess I’ll have to send in my Birthday wishes to Bridget, if only to shame her into guilt for forgetting mine last year!

Sadly, until they have the means to do something, they don’t have that option. This actually has set them back more than Papa and Baby Doc combined. That takes some doing.

California’s government can’t flee in a natural disaster and leave its people defenseless without fear of reproval, which is why its pointless to compare disasters occurring in third world countries with corrupt governments to similar disasters at home. They have no infrastructure right now, and that’s why this is a crisis. We’re talking about immediate needs not being met, and they can’t stop over in the nearest town. This was it. It is important to get water to them or there is no option of a future for them.

You’re right there are Haitians that are booing U.S. troops right now; however, there are also those thanking them. There are civilians who sacrifice their lives in third world countries trying to improve their own circumstances, because basically at that point any action against a corrupt goverment is a death sentence. It’s a combination of them not having made a strong enough move of resistance in addition to the outside world not paying them any heed when they get crushed. People need resources in order to have and hold power. We’re the haves; they’re the have nots, and that’s why they are victims. You can’t tell us they as a whole chose to live that way, and their efforts were not wasted unless people (Haitians, Americans, anyone) allow them to be. If we turn our back on them when they need help, we’re contributing to the problem. They’ve been told we don’t care, and can deflect their own devestation on the outside world bringing them down. We’re seeing the same thing on a larger scale in Iraq. For some reason, people claimed it would be an easy war to win with our resources and Saddam out of power, but the world doesn’t work that way. They see troops and think we mean war without realizing there are any of us who would live and let live. If we want people to live, we can’t only grace them with our presence when there’s something in it for us. It will be much too late.

eg it is 8.30 am Friday 22nd
