Exclusive Interview: Bridget Regan (Legend of the Seeker)
By Ian Spelling December 12, 2009

What’s a feisty, confident, beautiful and tall (5′-9″) actress to do?  Well, if you’re Bridget Regan, you audition for, win, and play the role of Kahlan, the butt-kicking, dagger-wielding sorceress, called a Confessor, in Legend of the Seeker.  The television series, based on the Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind, is now in its second season and doing just fine in first-run syndication.  New episodes are currently airing, and Kahlan still loves and protects the would-be Seeker (Craig Horner), but can’t ever be with him despite their mutual feelings for one another.  Complicating matters is the presence of Cara (Tabrett Bethell), a tough-as-nails and gorgeous Mord’Sith now fighting for the forces of good along with Richard, Kahlan, and the wizard Zedd (Bruce Spence).

PopStar recently caught up with Regan — who hails from California, spent much of her early career in New York City, and shoots Legend of the Seeker in New Zealand — for an exclusive interview.  In it, she discusses things to come on Legend of the Seeker, reveals what she wishes could happen between Kahlan and Richard, and celebrate her 3,000-plus Twitter followers.

How confident were you that Legend of the Seeker would be picked up for a second season?

I was pretty confident.  When our makeup artist bought herself a new car, I was pretty sure then.  I was like, “You wouldn’t be buying that car if you didn’t think we were going again.”  (Producer) Rob Tapert had told me it was 99.9%.  But there’s that skeptic inside of you that goes, “I don’t want to count on this and then not have an idea of what I’d do if it didn’t go on.”  I was pretty sure, though.  I felt like we were getting into a really great groove at the end of season one, and season two is, I think, already a real better show than it was last year.

At the beginning, they said she’s a sorceress. The man, who wrote that had no idea what’s happening in the show

IMHO, Bridget owes a lot of her twitter following to Chris, Lindsey and Seventh for their work on these fan sites. It is not by accident.

I hope you three get the chance to hang out with Bridget some day for you efforts on these sites. NZ would be nice this time of year!!! ;-)

I wouldn’t say that, Bridget’s pretty awesome on her own. ;)

That was an informative interview. Am looking forward to seeing Kahlan’s new outfit. And it’s nice to hear that Bridget and Tabrett are getting along.

    @Charlie
“”it’s nice to hear that Bridget and Tabrett are getting along.”"

My impression is Bridget has way too many manners to say otherwise about any cast member (not that I know)..

That was a really nice interview. Bridget seems like such a sweet, humble lady. :)

I can’t wait to see Kahlan’s new outfit!

I think she was being genuine as she has talked about Tabrett before on Twitter. She also seems to really like Ted Raimi. The vibe I’m getting from most involved with the show is that every is really nice and gets along.

@Lara, go a little easy on the interviewer. To those that don’t watch the show or read the books, explaining a Confessor is kind of difficult. When you’re trying to explain it really quickly, sorceress is about the closest you can really get. She does use magic so it’s not THAT far off.
Great interview, it’s great to see that they get to have fun and be silly, and it’s always great to hear that everyone gets along. It’s nice to see that Tabrett and Bridget get along, you wouldn’t know it watching LOTS, so kudos to their acting again!

Just tried to find a Craig Horner fansite and there is basically a dead one, too bad, he is a hard working successful actor. I wish him all the success.

Judging from Bridget’s following she is on to a long career in this biz. You need to do a bit of self-promo (like she does with Twitter, etc.) to help yourself certainly. And the right show helps too. She has a quick wit, I would love to see her on SNL.

Nice interview. Glad to hear she’s still got lots of enthusiasm for LotS; there’s always the concern that someone will do well and want to move on to Bigger and Better, though my own view is that LotS is so unique it’s hard to beat, especially with the budget upgrade this year. It’s also good to read here and there that internationally the show is doing very well on multiple continents; augurs well for the future.

I was pleasantly surprised to read that B still likes the white dress. Although I can understand her delight at a costume change, I hope the trademark Confessor’s Dress doesn’t go into the trunk for good. It’s like poetry in motion with her in that garment.

Good to hear about the girls’ alliance on-set with Tabrett. One gets the impression that TB would be a lot of fun to hang with. The poster’s comment about their good acting skills is well taken, but I’m told by a professional friend that this kind of tense developing competitive/cooperative relationship is easiest for actors to protray when the actors relate well to one another. There’s a spark between B and T that hints at a beneath-the-surface friendly wink-and-a-nod team thing going. Nice work by both.

Interesting, to me, that B seems unfazed by the cooling of K’s relationship with R, as R seems increasingly preoccupied with the burdens of the mission and very reserved toward K (beginning with his reactions in the banquet scene in ep. 2.1 to the child’s questions about their future plans) compared to a lot of the season 1 R reactions. Should be very interesting as season 2 advances and Sister Nicci comes on-scene as well.
