Lisa’s Armageddon Expo Experience
October 27, 2009 12:11 am

What follows is just a big bunch of awesomeness brought to you by Lisa. She contacted us about a month ago and offered to go to the Armageddon Expo and write us up a review. Needless to say, Chris and I were soooooo thankful to her that I think I said thank you every other sentence in my reply email. Lisa went to New Zealand on a photography expedition and so she also took photos at the expo. A few of the pictures are here in the article and all of them can be found in the gallery here: http://herblueeyes.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=27 All of these belong to Lisa and are a site exclusive so all the images are watermarked with both her name an the site address, please don’t swipe them. Thanks Lisa! We REALLY appreciate it!

Hey all you Bridget fans…hello from NZ! Being a Legend of the Seeker fan, I’ve always appreciated this site for compiling all the latest updates so I don’t have to hunt them down on the web myself…so as a thank-you to Lindsey and Chris, I agreed to check out the Armageddon Expo while I was on vacation in NZ. Let me just say, the only expo I’ve ever been to was a travel expo in NYC, so I was a bit out of my element. To see all the sights at the expo was a bit weird for me—but hey, I’m always game for adventure, and it was good fun!

I’ll get right down to all things Bridget for you fans…though I’m guessing this will be a bit redundant since there’s bound to be video of the whole Legend of the Seeker panel on YouTube by now. But anyhoo…

So this was the show’s very first panel, with Craig Horner, Bridget, Craig Parker, Tabrett Bethell, and Mark Beesley, the director. As they came into the room with the main stage, everyone started buzzing. When they were introduced, the announcer shouted “CraigHornerBridgetRegan…Craig Parker”…etc. and everyone made way for Craig H. to take the stage, and then Craig P. went up—they thought the announcer was going to do individual intros for each person. So everyone started going up in order, but Bridget didn’t realize that her name had already been called! She was standing there last, waiting for the announcer to say her name, and he didn’t, and the poor girl looked like she felt left out…I think everyone wanted to say, “don’t worry, he called your name, go ahead on up!” It wasn’t her fault really; the announcer basically said her name and Craig’s as though it was one long word. So she went up finally and joined the crew on the couch.

Then they showed a quick sneak peek at the new season, which was a tad disappointing because it was basically the same preview you can see online.  I think there were maybe a few extra lines of dialogue in the scene where they see the tear in the veil to the underworld, but nothing earth-shattering.

They started in with the Q&A right away, and talked about various things.  I took notes so here are some bits and pieces (not in order), all relating to Bridget:

–She mentioned she gets a new outfit in Epi 8, it’s not white and very sexy, she said.  I’m sure she’s happy to have something else besides the long dress!

–She said her favorite part about her costume is gossiping with her dresser during the 20 minutes it takes to lace it up in the morning, heheheh.

–There was a very cute moment when Bridget came to Craig H.’s rescue…some jerk was saying to Craig how, in the book, Richard is described as a really big, hulking guy, and basically,  since Craig isn’t, how did he deal with that?  (I’m paraphrasing but that was the gist of it.)  Everyone starting laughing a bit but also cringing at this guy’s comment (at least I was cause it was said in a pretty crappy way) and Bridget stepped in and said, “Have you seen this guy with his shirt off??  It’s pretty great.  Not hard to be in love with him!”  I was glad she intervened and I hope that Craig didn’t give the guy’s comment a second thought.  If you’re ever in doubt Craig, just think about the legions of girls who would willingly throw themselves at you!

–She said she’s always afraid to post stuff on Twitter about the show because she doesn’t want the bigwigs to get mad at her for giving out spoilers, etc.  I think she doesn’t realize the buzz and the excitement she causes for the show when she makes those posts, and they’re worth their weight in PR gold for the show.  Tell that to the producers!

–Mark Beesley was talking about how they haven’t had any major injuries or anything during filming, and he tried to get everyone to stand up to prove it.  Bridget pointed out that she had a few scratches on her arm.  Oh and she talked about how she’d love to have a blooper reel of just her sleeve issues—she said she’s always getting them wrapping around swords and stuff.  (My favorite thing about dvd extras is the blooper reel, so I think that would be hysterical!)

–She also gave a lot of props to the various crew people, the costumers, etc.  She talked about how one of the great things about having to wear the same stuff day in and day out is that it lends a real authenticity to the clothing.  They said Zedd does the laundry for the characters, that’s why they stay so clean-looking. ;-)

As for general info about the show, they talked about how things are not going to really follow the order they’re in in the books,  and that with the underworld and the Keeper in this season, there’s plenty of potential for anyone dead to come back and make an appearance, good or bad.  They said we’ll be seeing the Sisters of the Light and Dark this season as well, so that should be cool.  And of course banelings, but I think we knew that already from the preview.  Much of what was said is to be found online already.

Now the 2nd part of my “mission” in being there was to get something autographed for a contest prize for this site, and I’m afraid I failed miserably at that.  I thought I was being all smart and prior to everything starting, I scouted out where they were going to be signing and the quickest way to get there from the panel…but they changed the signing location on me at the last minute and (I should’ve known this) all the smart people left the panel discussion way early in order to get in line.  Once the panel ended, I had no idea where I was going, so I just followed the panel!  I caught an adorable moment walking behind Craig H. and Bridget; they each had an arm around the other’s waist and were deep in conversation; it was very cute.  They look like they’re good friends.  But of course they didn’t head straight to the signing, so I veered off and found the queue (that’s kiwi-speak for line, people!).  It was reeeeally long.  I made it in ahead of about 40 people before they cut it off.  Long story short, things got started very late and the line moved 10 feet in 40 minutes, so things were not going well…I had a bus to catch by 3:30 and I knew I wasn’t going to make it if I stayed, so I had to jump ship.  But I got a few ok shots of Bridget (over people’s shoulders, etc., sorry) for you guys and I have to say, it was really cute watching little kids go through the line—the stars perked right up for them, and they were really taking their time and giving everyone individual attention, which was really nice.  So if my getting out of line meant a little girl got an autograph when she otherwise wouldn’t have, I’m happy thinking that.  Sorry to all of you guys for not being able to get something.  I guess there’s supposed to be some big PR blitz for them in Times Square, so maybe someone will have better luck there.

Enjoy Season Two everyone!

Lisa

I was there and the panel was really great. I too missed out on autograph. About 40 people missed out. Their “people” were literally pulling them away, and I mean literally, they didn’t seem to want to go.
Bridget was wearing heels but she is tall, you could pick her out in a crowd. Have to say she is stunning in real life.

Oh wow, AWESOME! LOVE THE PHOTOS! :D

As for the handlers, they’ve a tough job – they had to clear the area for the next autograph session.

Great report. Sounds like they still enjoy working together and I’m glad to hear the cast giving the support company their due. Also it’s great to hear how they lit up for the kids. Solid role models, these actors, really makes you root for their success even more. Thanks!

Thanks guys! Glad you enjoyed it. If you want a few more tidbits on the photos I took, you can see comments on my flickr album (http://www.flickr.com/photos/copperhorsestudio/sets/72157622672653772/). In particular, I explain the look Bridget was giving Craig during the signing–it was really funny. Oh and there’s pictures of Craig and talking to a little girl (unfortunately out of focus, but oh well). :)

    Thanks for this!

The line got cut 3 PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME. I ended up getting an autograph anyway, though. I ran up to the table, ripped off the sign that said “Craig Parker, Darken Rahl” and got Craig P and Bridget to sign it. The rest of ‘em had pretty much gone. :P

I feel bad that they feel bad people didn’t get autographs. They did stay extra time and were getting through people pretty fast. Its good in a way. It shows how popular they and the show is. If they run out of time in little old New Zealand. Imagine if they went to Comic.Con!!
I had a great time just seeing the panel, it was worth the trip I made to go.
